No we're are still chugging along up here. It ain't getting no easier but I'm not complaining. I just hadn't heard anything out of you in quite awhile. Doesn't really make sense to shutdown a goldmine. I think someone down that way went under though.

Yes, sound on the web is something new.
Some like it ,some dont.
Visitors will have the choice between a mermaid tour version and a returning customer version with less mermaid.
But what the mermaid says is key to understanding how we do things on the site. I bet GreshsamH didnt listen to the mermaid and thus has no idea what a VOOM cast sales meeting is or how the LIVE ROCK DELI works!
Narration is common place on the TV , but its" how dare you" on the net?
I said in the past ,"video and sound are going to be common place on the web" ....four score and seven years ago , everyone thought I was out of my mind when I said my e-tail store will have live video and chock full of what you see is what you get products video.
Times are a changing and the future is here.
just look whats happened since YOUTUBE caught on and DSL speeds on the net increased.
Eighty percent of websites have sound with video now,( thanks to porn and news sites.)
I think the way web video is catching on will hasten the transition to a more Television like experience on the internet.

Once the video content is added , what the mermaid is saying will become more engaging and less annoying.( I hope).

Actually in this day and age to hear a computer generated voice turns me off Kalk. And the droning soundtrack :( Sorry, but as an some one who has done a lot of electronic music, and has viewd umpteen websites with music, I've got to say I liked yours the least. Sorry if that bites you, I'm just being brutally honest.

Other then that, some interesting concepts and graphics. Good luck :D

There are two hundred pages on the site without music and only one with music
( the intro page) That little jingle turns you off?
What do you do when you watch television?
Do you turn off the sound while listening to the radio as well?
Its not that the website has a mermaid and she is talking thats suppose to be the amazing part ,
It's what she says and shows you thats suppose to be the exciting part!
how many websites let you hand pick live rock rock via a live webcam as I hold up pieces for the customer to choose?
The mermaid is computer generated so I can change what is said daily.
Check out the site again ..she has a personal message for you on the intro page Gresham! wink

I just listened to the personal message for Gresham from the mermaid and I was laughing so hard that my stomach hurt. Classic.

Tossing bloody bags and fish meal into the water to attract game(chumming)? or Embrace Kalk as a friend? Which one Skip :D

Either way, sounds interesting :D

I listenned to what she said, and followed a bunch of dead links. I can't get excited over dead links, sorry.

If you can't take creative critism Kalk, do not post a half finished website into a active forum ;) I'm simply calling it like I see it. LIke it or not, you openned the can o worms, not me.

As someone that does artitistic (not autistic) stuff himself, I learned long ago not to get too emotionally connected to my work. WHat you find great, others may not. It's just a fact of life, sorry :(

Did I not say "intersting concepts" Kalk?

BTW, I don't believe in mythical creatures, sorry. Never hit on one, never seen one and definitly never found one attractive. Although that one at your store was, well, quite built IIRC the photos :D

I'm not certain that tossing bloody bags of fish meal in the water will help you embrace Kalk as a friend, but that creepy looking guy in his avatar may enjoy the idea of it. :D

I thought Kalk might be attracted to the scent, but I could be wrong. I've seen him circle and take larger prey down plenty of times

Though I can't link you to the study, apparently an amazing percentage of people who are looking for products on the web will immediately close the window on a site with music. In the world of annoying telephone voice prompt hell people are wary of having to listen to something they could more easily read. Also, if someone is surfing at work and suddenly sound comes blaring out of their machine, the will prolly not go back to that site. More probable though is that they already have the sound turned off, and if your sound is your message, you are going to be losing customers.

What do you do when you watch television?
Do you turn off the sound while listening to the radio as well?

IMO these are bad comparisons, as is youtube as they are for sound and visuals (however, even youtube doesn't just start with it, you have to click on stuff to get sound). Most people looking for information on the web aren't looking for sound - if they were ebay and google would have music and talking stuff.

Its not that the website has a mermaid and she is talking thats suppose to be the amazing part ,

Mermaid? Its just a girl. There is nothing to suggest that she is a mermaid. :D

It's what she says and shows you thats suppose to be the exciting part!

Most websites that do things like that make it a choice of the surfer. Priming/forcing media on a surfer is considered poor 'netiquite'. www.scuba.com is a good example - they have the talking dive girl, but you have to click to make it go.

I create lots of websites, so I like to think I am not talking out of my butt on this issue.

All that said, its your site, and you do what you like with it! :D

I agree with your data , but what live stock sellers are actually selling is pictures.
With pictures they seem to over shadow the text on the page.
its click on the next pretty picture , then click on the next and so forth.
Without ever bothering to read the text on the page.
How many people order super male fairy wrasses , thinking they are getting the one in the photo.....only to receive a small sub adult male. (Never reading the fine print.)
Future more text takes up too much space. Imaging video on the web with closed captions.
I remember when the anti Flash crowd claimed there is no need for flash video or non html content.
Maybe your right or maybe I'm just ahead of my time.

Thanks for the input though.

Hey Jeff, what other store closed down? I know that UTW is gone now - but I must have missed something if another one did.

A full-line store around here went buh-bye a few weeks ago, but that had seemingly been in the cards for a while - nobody was shocked about that. It wasn't a contender in the fish biz anyway.

Do tell ;) I've missed all the gossip.
