Problem is source really. Most come in starved, or worse, captured with CN. I salute your gumption, but do we really want to up the anty on these guys, knowing the main problem is source? Hobbyists are secondary to a larger problem.

Guess you haven't been hiding out so much in recent years if you've changed your name from Big Bog, to Little Bob :D

SantaMonica,

The LFS is near the end of the COC< alot has happenned prior to getting to that point. Several weeks can elapse prior to the fish even seeing food. With such starvation, it's hard to get most animals to eat, let alone a secretive fish like a BRE. I've seen far more then my fair share of them while working in wholesale, and retail.

I'm not discounting what your saying, it' kinda a known thing. Many public aquaria have been using that trick for many years. My favorite use is in the CA. ghost shrimp display at the MBA.

it has far more to do with going at it again and again with the food and the feeding stick than it does with the pipe ;) :)

but very few hobbyists accomplish what you managed to do-congrats! :)

I have worked in the trade since 81 and have seen quite a few ribbon eels eat very well provided with a simple rock cave.IME source is the most important issue, followed closely by patience.Quite often they refuse to feed for a couple of weeks, and at that point employees essentially give up since everyone"knows"that they are practically impossible. And just throwing food in the tank is NOT the way to entice these guys into taking that first captive meal.
