Not many stores can compete with this price and still turn a profit. So apparently Red Sea is in bed with etailers deep discounting their products.

I guess I should provide a little perspective. Race Foster who has told us he does not dropship drygoods is selling the same unit that Superfish Store dropships for $649.95 for $949.99 plus 17.99 for shipping.(to me) That's a total of $967.98. So Superfish Store is beating brother Race by $318.03. I hope Race joins me in being outraged that Red Sea is allowing certain select etailers to deep discount their products and then Red Sea handles the shipping for them.
Mitch
PS
If I didn't have a customer who came in wanting me to match the $649.95 price I wouldn't be telling y'all all this. Red Sea must not care if independent stores carry their products or not.

It would seem these guys have the same deal except for $599.95.

I wonder how the distributors feel about this? I know what I'd pay at wholesale for that setup...

And often when manufacturers start selling direct to retailers (with or without drop-shipping) their distributors get peeved off and start dropping product lines.

This happened with Penn Plax and it's happening now with Hagen.

How soon before the mainstream distributors start dumping Red Sea?

It's gonna take all LFS's to drop the line. I have personally had great results modifying an Oceanic Bio cube to fit a TAAM Nano Skimmer on the back. I can sell those at half the price of the RS Max and get just as good results IMO.......

i would have agreed to order it for them with a 50% non refundable deposit down, get it from super fish store, make no money off of the tank, and get the customer into my base for future purchases ;) :)

tank setups are low markup anyway, and they hog space-turning one over for a net 0 loss/0 profit with only 50% risk from my own pocket, for a tank that'll sell anyway sooner or later, and possibly after a small markup if the deposit customer renegs, certainly isn't the end of the world

what would i gain by not going the extra bit for the customer to get them to buy livestock/food/supplies etc., and crying about redsea's biz practices ? :P

I did this a couple times long ago then the customer expected me to match the price of everything they could find on the web. Odds are this would not be a very loyal customer.
