Let the UN feed the kids but make them send a quality product by holding them accountable for juiced fish that die. How bad will they starve when the ocean is dead and all fisheries go bust due to the few using cyanide and dynamite to destroy the reef? Then the ornamental trade is gone, the food trade is gone, and the tourist trade will never come back....

What makes you think CN is so widely used that it's in DR/Haiti? Usually there has to be another commercial use of CN in the country for it to be used in MO. I don't know about the commercial gold mines in DR but I'll tell you I've never heard of them before :)

If they are not juicing then there is something seriously wrong with handling since I can not recall a time when I was sent Haiti Fish that at least 50% did not die in a few days.

Dear Sw Saltwater

On many occasions here on Reefs dot org you have stated that Haiti uses cyanide to collect marine fish. You will now be asked to prove it in a court of law. Remember since you have stated many times here on RO the burden of proof will shift to you. You have continually defamed the shippers of tropical fish from Haiti. You have caused damages to my business. You have caused the spread of false rumors concerning a commercial product. I have tried to set the record straight with you several times. You have refused to even consider that you might be wrong. I am sorry to take this drastic action but my patience has run out.

Bob I take it you have visited Haiti a few times.
Do the fishers in Haiti use cyanide or other drugs to catch the fish?

Bob, Guess you need to sue the FWS as well for posting unconfirmed reports of Cyanide in Haiti. I would venture to say that most countries where MO's are harvested have cyanide colectors at work. DOA's and DAA's can tell us who IMO.

http://www.fws.gov/coralreef/asiasum.cfm

Recently the practice of cyanide fishing has spread to other countries to meet the growing worldwide demand for ornamental aquarium fishes and for live reef food fish (especially in the restaurant trade in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan). Cyanide fishing is especially widespread in Indonesia, and has also been confirmed in Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Maldives. There are unconfirmed reports from the Red Sea, Palau, Tanzania, the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, the Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Fiji, and Haiti.

Is the country of Haiti going to sue him in international courts?

But wasn't the question inclusive of the words "or other drugs"?

Sure, but he (DRI) did dispute the CN claim so Wayne the rabbit can drop that from his query ;)

Naesco,

Thanks so much for your contributions to this thread.

Unfortunately, with absolutely zero past or current involvement in the trade of marine ornamentals there are some folks here is this community that might take your comments somewhat lightly.

I respect your efforts and hope that you continue to stay involved. All good teams have people cheering for them on the sidelines, out of play.

Warmest regards

Bob let me re-phrase my question.
I assume you have visited Haiti a few times.
Are you aware whether the fishers or using cyanide, quinaldine or any other drug to catch fish for sale in the marine industy?

Thank you

Wayne Ryan
