Hi all !

I am looking for tips / advice on how to more effectively hold large numbers of hermit crabs. Particularly Blue Legs and Red Scarlets.

Weekly import a good 4000+ for each. Currently they are just hold on large plastic bins with large rocks.

I was thinking finding a material that I can safely attach / glue to the walls on the plastic bins allowing the live crabs to start climbing the walls and at packing time I would remove those on the walls.

Before new shipment comes in I would remove all that are in the bottom floor which many would be empty shells.

Would this work? Any other ideas? How have you seen this done?

thanks in advanced.

tommy.

Any standard invert holding system should do, just lot of live rock and feed them often. You can spray pond foam on the walls if desired.

Thanks. So this pond foam would be safe and is this something standard that is done in the industry?

Besides keeping them alive of course I am looking for effective methods that will help in the packing and the removing of empty shells to be a faster process.

There was a write up by Bob Goemens in FAMA magazine a month back on the pond foam we use. All the info you need is in there.
