Wayne, I tried the link again and found the information I was seeking. When I tried it on Friday, it did not lead anywhere. Now it does. It looks like Christian Schmidt is one of the founders. Until recently she was associated with the MAC.

The formation of the Industry Association just took place a the INTERZOO exhibition in Europe. It is of course a European industry association.

The organization being formed is a reeform minded industry organization seeking to make changes in the European industry and advancing industry's concerns to lawmakers in Europe.

On a recent trip to the Philippines and Indonesia I had the chance to visit with several exporters. They also expressed their concerns that the new US governement may make changes that affect their business and of course their livlihood.

Sadly, the US Marine Industry chooses to sit on their asses and do nothing. Gentleman, when a new administration or PETA gets involved it will be too late.

Choose a leader amongst you and start something NOW.

Can you leave politics OUT of the forum? You aren't even a voter here in the states, you have no idea whom is going to win so please stop flapping your lips about it. NO POLITICS on this forum, can't you grasp that?

Peter, I see Tim multiple times a year. He'll be at MACNA in ATL if you want to talk to him in person.

Gresham, please read my post. There is no politics in it.
May I please ask to you, as a person involved in the industry to address the grave concerns raised.
Thank you

You must not remember posting that then. Obama's current involvement wouldn't be ANYTHING. He's running for president now and fully concentrating on that. He has not won the title PRESIDENT and may not. By posting
Gentleman, when Obama or PETA gets involved it will be too late
you are suggesting he is all ready a shoe in for president and opening up this forum to debate on if he'll become president due to how strongly many people feel about who might become the next US President. You must understand even off cuff remark like you made can incite a political debate which is why RDO asked us many years ago to leave such topics off this forum. The sump is a great place for that, go down below and post you remark there!!

Understand?

I plead guilty and have deleted the reference to Obama in my post.

Hopefully you and others wil take the 10 seconds to think about what I have posted and take steps to form an organization just as the Europeans have done.

Gresham the purpose of this thread was to have industry form an organization like the Europeans for reeform of the industry.

I had asked that each visitor to this thread think about the effect on their business by inaction on their part.

Are you concerned?

Am I concerned? Dude you gloss over everything I post I guess. 3K of my posts are on the very subject. I do more then that even but unlike many around I don't run around tooting my own horn, nor do I tend to toot others horns that I don't know squat about!!!!!

What has the EU group done? How many strong are they? You don't know squat about them and your telling me the US needs something like them? Oh brother

Well given I have been yelling my concern since 2002 on this very forum you've been on, what do YOU think my stance is???

It's truly a simple answer if you've been paying attention :D After all, you are "one of the 'founders' of the industry behind the hobby forum on reefs.org" as stated by you :D

what do they have in Europe besides a vapor ware website that eludes to what they do? I don't see much, nor have I heard much. I am surprised Tim didn't mention it to me in the numerous conversations I had with him this last weekend in Chicago.

The web page eludes to stuff they do yet there is no content other then that. No mention of industry members that have joined, etc. I'll definitely keep an eye on it and email Tim for more info.

Besides that, Wayne, you just don't know me. I have done that. I currently do that. Ask any I talk to. I've been thinking about this very type of thing for a decade and have been involved with ones on a small scale to see where problems might arise. I've analyzed the past groups and what went wrong. I can not figure out any way to keep the group not biased by it's funders, members etc. and stay true to it's stated mission. Money is the great evil in such a group and if money isn't involved the work load will create problems amongst those that are running it. Internal politics would rip it apart in such a case. I'm sure some one can figure a way thru this but I just can't see how myself.

I'd be willing to work with such a group, be a part of such a group, and sponsor such a group :D

Gresham, Obviously the new Sustainable Aquatics Industry Association (SAIA) is just getting established. I wish them well.

There are about a dozen companies listed as becoming members on the site already. That is encouraging. It took MAC much longer to build that much support. I guess it helps to have the person who originally got companies in EU to join the MAC (Christian Schmidt) being one of the main proponents of the new industry group. I am not sure whether or not the companies joining the new group were assocated with MAC.

There's 5 Peter with a few Biologists signed on as well. I agree though, not only do I wish them well, I want to know more :) I think both Tim and Christian will do a fine job running the group and staying true to their mission. Unlike you I have never meet her, but I have met Tim and talked with him on numerous occasions. He's not only dedicated, he's got the knowledge to back it up :)

Gresham, I agree that Christian and Tim are onto something important and I think they will do a good job. Funding any new organization is always a problem, and I expect it will take some time for it to get off the ground. You mentioned you would be willing to assist. Do you think a North American chapter of SAIA is needed?
