I disagree with the last comment.

I brought in a Euro-Reef and the comparable Octopus and ran them side by side in the same system for 60 days. Not only did the Euro-Reef outperform the Octopus but the quality of construction was quite a bit better.

Having said that, the Octopus is a nice skimmer at a nice price and I totally understand why they are selling well. I can certainly see both sides of the story. The Euro-Reef is a better built skimmer though and most certainly isn't being pumped out of the same factory in China as the Octopus.

Best regards,

I would agree that the euroreef is a better skimmer, I don't know if it is enough better to justify the higher cost, but the pump is better than the OTP pump. They do not come out of the same factory yet.

It's the RS series that people say are the same factory.. this isn't really pertinent to the thread but it's info that is pretty commonly accepted in the public domain. Btw, I"m sure you know the pump is what makes the skimmer.. these nw skimmer bodies are all pretty much the same.

Probably not fair to compare the ER to the base model Octopus, when you get to the extreme and hurricone series they have no comparison, Octopus also makes the Orcas for reeflo, the hurricone is rumored to be getting the reeflo NW on the newer ones. Cant wait for those. But the OTP pump works as well as a sedra if not better since sedras go bad on me far more often. The extreme and hurricones use askol or sicce pumps which own the ER IMO. That being said I still own the first ER I ever bought and its running on my live rock system and after 8 or so years it still pulls like a champ. Not saying ER is bad, just for the money the Pctopus is a better bang for the buck.

Guess a few people sent UPS packages to them and were returned out of business. I wonder if there is a sign on the building.

Man do I feel for the stores that stock their LED lights. Its going to be hard to sell a $3000 set of lights without warrantee.

Actually two semi local stores I know had the Solaris units in stock, but only one in each store, and both stores just set them up over a tank and wrote them off as a loss.
One store owner I know of felt obligated to take a solaris unit he sold a couple months back as a return though when the customer came in claiming it had a few LED's that "looked" dim.

Customers like to buy what we actually use so a store use item is worth its weight in gold. Setting up a $1000+ light that you can’t sell is a huge waist on a business stand point. I’d would have discount it as low as possible and let the customer know it’s sold as is.

Sorry, should specify. He set it up in the back on an overflow frag tank. The lights give coral a good color, but other then that I honestly don't know how they did.
