    I had a similar problem with mine. The sponge is actually optional. I removed mine when it began to clog and water was spilling over the top of the skimmer. Now the right side has lots of sponges, fans, and worms growing inside. I say, just remove it. The bubbles aren't really a problem...

    She was in a 55 gallon, but alas I have returned her to my local fish store where she will hopefully find a home in a bussiness installment (large) fish tank. She was a great fish for three months, but I felt bad keeping her knowning that she would grow to large for my tank.

    Thanks for the information. I found an article on advanced aquarist that was very helpful. Looks like I'll be getting a larger tank very soon.

    When the fish was purchased it was labelled as a "unicorn tang" however, I have been unable to find any pictures of unicorn tangs that resemble these patterns. The fish is a light green color with purple spots, purple lips, and a light purple pattern in her tail fin.
