  1. Christmas Additions (Humor)

Well, I am decorating the tank for the holidays. I want to put little lights on the acropora, fake snow on the live rock, and santa hats on the fish. It still needs something more - I was wondering - is my tank Wreath safe?
  2. Caulerpa eaters wanted

I had a similar situation. I added a small sailfin to cut my caulerpa, but noticed nothing for a week or two, then all of a sudden ALL the caulerpa was gone. Remember, it grows fast, so if you are seeing it slowly getting smaller, that means all the growth is being eaten, plus a little extra...
  3. Instant Ocean salt-Ca-350, Ph-8.2, Alk 3.7

Well, I used to put kalwasser in my IO mix to boost the calcium to 450, aerate it a while, at least till the Ph went back down to 8.3. Now, I just add it with 300 calcium. Like esmithiii said, not a big difference.
  4. my success with fish

Well, in July I had some horrible luck with keeping fish alive. I made a desperate post for help with all tank parameters, and everything I ever tried to keep that died. Rather than help, it turned into a very ugly post, at first people flamed, and then simply made fun of me. Even with all...
  5. Xenia not expanding

My xenia either goes through cycles, or has small crashes. Every now and then, it stops pulsing and doesn't expand (sometimes only a little - sometimes I swear it is dead), and then slowly recovers. Must be happy - it is growing like crazy.
  6. WHAT ONE THING MAKES YOUR REEF AQUARIUM SUCCESSFUL?

A Ph monitor! I don't know why everyone says they aren't really needed.
  7. Mussels to filter reef tank water

I find it hard to believe you can't keep macroalgae, either your nitrates are really low, your water is really bad, or more likely, something is eating it. I think you are breaking new ground if you try this, but I also think macroalgae will be easier to keep alive longterm.
  8. Experience with queen conch?

Conch are really neat animals, especially when you think a bunch of snails all over the glass looks bad. They will eat diatoms, green film, and red slime algea (probably any algea except macroalgea and coralline), mostly off the sandbed (nothing else I tried even put a dent in my sand surface...
  9. How can I keep Nitrates DOWN

Add sand, even if you don't go DSB, every grain will help. This is not an all or nothing decision. ------------------------------------ "need to get rid of the wrasse if I go deep sand bed" Why get rid of the wrass? Yes, they eat microfauna, but 1 wrass in 125 gallons with sand is much much...
  10. to crab or not to crab...that is the question

I have crabs, and they do some good, a little harm, and are neat to watch. Everyone either recommends a ridicoulous 2 crab / gallon or none at all, which I think is silly. Get a few, if you want more, get more (I know you lose a little with bulk deals this way, but better than getting 100+...
  11. Role of tank depth concerning Power Compacts?

I have a 120 (also 2' tall) and PC lights. While I keep SPS towards the top, I have Euphyllia and leathers doing well on the bottom. Unless you are going only SPS I'd say your fine for just about everything. I don't think the MH vs. PC debate is nearly as relevant as total wattage.
  12. Help with blue tuxedo urchin

Don't worry. I never see mine move, but it is in a different spot every day or so. Anyhow, there really isn't much you can do, so just leave him be.
  13. Fresh, Frozen or Flake?

What do you feed primarily? What is the most nutritious? I know everyone says variety is best.
  14. high alkalinity !!

aquaguy: Please tell us what addatives you are using. If PH and and Ca are good, and the animals are good, I wouldn't worry. trybka: I observed the same in my tank - adding liquid calc lowered Alk and PH too. Here is my explaination (it is sensible, but maybe not 100% correct)...
