  1. Algea, I know you get this alot!!

MAN!! All the post while I was typing my novel!! VHO are getting old but nine mos are not really that big a problem, in the next couple of months start working to change those out..change them out one at a time maybe one a month.. I'm done now..I think?
  2. Algea, I know you get this alot!!

You most likely have a phosphate problem..which would also help to explain the low calcium..the phosphate will bond with the calcium keeping levels in the tank low. If you have any type of filter media on your powerheads or pump for sump you should remove them and clean them, or just remove them...
  3. Can I premix B-ionic or other 2 part formulations?

You know! You could make that happen!!! 8)
  4. Advice on Skimmerless tank

I am thinking about turning a 75 that I have running as a FO into a skimmerless stand alone reef tank, no (or just a couple) fish, Anyone doing a successful skimmerless tank have any good advice to share?
  5. My water is cloudy

Sounds like you have a bacterial bloom going on...did something die? maybe causing the tank to begin a cycling situation? Anything added lately? What is the amonia/nitrite situation?
  6. What's wrong with my astreas?

Sounds like there might have been copper in the new tank! Is that a possibility?
  7. xenia problem solve

Seems like no matter who you ask..no one seems to have a good answer for what makes these guys happy..I had xenia in the tank..It did incredible for almost a year then all of sudden there it went..wasted away to nothing in a couple of days. If I add xenia to the tank.. It is now wasted within a...
  8. Sump pump cavitating like crazy! Help Please...

Is that a check valve coming out of the outlet of the pump? or just a coupling? I can't tell.. If it is a check valve, move the check valve up the line closer to the tank..see if that fixes the problem.
  9. sand is turning brown...why?

Diatomic algae - this is a normal occurance in a new saltwater setup.. It should go away in about a month, most likely never to return! Hang in there!
  10. water change

If it works for you ignore everyone else..the fact that you are already practicing this speaks for itself..if the tank hasn't had a chance to build up a lot of toxins then this practice should keep it from doing so..while minimizing the animal stress..reef stress brings a whole new meaning to...
  11. Length of ich cycle in an empty tank

28 days sounds right but I have to shove my opinion from the uv sterilizer post at you again... I never ever treat ich..I always look for the cause! The stress of moving the fish to a new environment is often worse than the ich..as long as the fish eats and in other ways stay healthy the ich...
  12. sand is turning brown...why?

Diatomic algae- it is a normal part of the new reef process it will go away completely in about a month - all is still well -It is just a new tank thing. Hang in there!
  13. Moving a tank

In MO if the tank is in fact over engineered. the stand should take the load and not affect the tank at all... But that is kind of your call
  14. How much does salinity effect stony corals?

I was talking about the time for normal polyp extention can be a couple of weeks.. I completely agree that you should easily be able to raise the salinity over a couple of days..
  15. UV sterilizers

I tend to maintain the belief that all fish carry ich..and that stress in the tank usually causes it to manifest itself...Find the source of the stress and cure the ich..usually temp..tank heating up in the day time and cooling off at night...also shifting ph brings ich to the surface..I have...
