  1. Is this pink stuff cyano?

I have little areas of this in the front of my 110gal reef tank. Is this cyano?
  2. What's this?

Thanks for the info. Here's a better picture. What do you think? I have the following corals: Finger Leather Pom Pom Clove Green Star Polyp Not sure how long he'll last anyway. My green bird wrasse spotted it at pecked it off the glass. Although it hasn't yet followed up on the attack.
  3. What's this?

I discovered this "worm" on the glass today for the first time in my 110gal reef tank. It's about half an inch long. Is it good, bad, neutral?
  4. Expoosed Coral During Water Change

Hmm. I suppose I could at least to part of it with the sump. Although I like to try to siphon some of the crud off the surface of the rock. But thanks, that's a great solution. Sometimes it's hard to see the solution staring you in the face.
  5. Water Quality

Hmm. I'm wondering though how the life can survive with Nitrates that high in their tanks. I will also present this in the other forum; thank you.
  6. Expoosed Coral During Water Change

Thank you. This particular coral is a pretty large finger leather. I'm hoping it will bend a little back and rest against the back wall of the tank. So, you do your water changes with the lights out, right?
  7. Expoosed Coral During Water Change

I just put a new coral higher up my tank. It will, no doubt, be exposed if I were to do my normal water change. How should I handle the water change?
  8. Water Quality

Yes, I believe they do have interconnecting systems. But isn't a Nitrate level of over 100 bad for their livestock?
  9. Water Quality

The other day I bought a leather coral from my LFS. Just for curiosity sake I decided to test the Nitrate in the water from the LFS bag that I brought home my coral in. I was surprised to see it was around 100. Was that a real measure? Does leather coral excrete any sort of Nitrate that might...
  10. Dead Coral

I just pulled it out and smelled it. It smells like sea water. No real odor at all. Is it possible that it's alive after two months of not coming out? Or is it more likely that it already fully decayed?
  11. Dead Coral

If the coral is dead I'd like to pull it out and try cleaning it out. (bleach it and then soak it in a rinse of sea water for a while) I'm wondering if I can them put it back in my tank and get some other coral to take over that network of tubes. Would that work? Are there certain types of...
  12. Dead Coral

Thank you. That's a great test. Didnt' want to remove something that might be alive.
  13. Dead Coral

At this point I'm more curious about any possible negative impact on the water quiality caused by dead coral than why it actually died. What happens when coral dies and begins to decay?
  14. Dead Coral

It's 110 gallon with about 100 lbs of LR and 4 inches of sand. 4 Blue Chromis (I had 7 but two of them swam into the filter and one of them had some problem where he couldn't control his swimming; he would do these big barrel rolls and sadly he was eventually sucked into the filter.) 1 Yellow...
  15. Dead Coral

A Metalic Green Star Polyp that I bought from my LFS two months ago came out once or twice the first week and that is it. I tried moving it and whatnot, but this point I'm assuming it's dead, right? If it is dead, should I remove that from the tank? Does dead coral like that have a negative...
