  1. Looking for a good auto top off

i use a 20 gallon HD plasic container for my freshwater resorvoir. A float switch keeps it loaded from the RO/DI with a second hole drilled for overflow into the drain should the switch fail. Then i use a gravity feed to my Refugium via another float switch. Keeps the level perfect in the sump...
  2. Adding copper banded butterfly w/ 5 established fish

we are on about day 5 now. The CBB is beginning to move around and I have seen him nibbling on the rocks now. He travels the length of the tank, but returns to is corner. He is hanging aound the sea swirl. The tang is still pumping himself up , but oddly he tends to race around near the sand...
  3. Adding copper banded butterfly w/ 5 established fish

I am suffering through an Aiptasia outbreak in my reef tank - totally out of control. I just did not take care of business when I should have. After reading writing listening I tried a couple of things. After trying to learn the pros and cons of the copper banded butterfly I decided I wanted to...
  4. Aiptasia control w/ copper wire

I was browsing through The Reef Aquarium (Delbbeek and Sprung) and I believe it said you could kill aiptasia by inserting a copper wire into them and holding it there for a couple of minutes. Has anyone tried this method with decent results? Are their any dangers associated with too much copper...
  5. Those things are beautiful - you sure have alot of them!

Three pepermints just arrived for my new "nano tank" cleaning station - the experiment begins. If it fails they will just wind up in the main tank. Just so that there is no confusion I have more than a few - I have aiptasia land! Its a shame I let it get so out of control, but it is what it is...
  6. Those things are beautiful - you sure have alot of them!

Okay I have a serious problem with Aiptasia – the system is going into the 5th year and the problem really started a while back, but they have just multiplied like crazy. Combine that with a less than I gotta get them attitude and I now find my self with an Aiptasia tank….. Lots of people...
  7. RO water storage.

Everything takes time .... and money in this hobby. This goes back a while, but I thought in order to maximize the effieciency of your RO system you really need to increase the presure on the order of 75 PSI. If thats true the pump is pretty important. At the time I thought It was important...
  8. HOT TIPS: How do you perform your waterchanges?

Change about 45 gals - 4 times a year…..I have my RO plumbed to a 25 gal holding tank which gravity feeds to my hospital tank ( 30 gal glass), Water change tank ( water softener- plastic) and then onto the top off system in my sump. All three have shutoffs and float stops to control the levels...
  9. ID Alage/Caulepra

I just spent an hour on the algae page - I need to get out more.
  10. What is everyone using for water change containers?

I got mine from local water conditioner guy. They have 35 gal plastic containers for soft water that hold the salt crystals and water mix for backwashing the filter system. The tanks can be bought without a hole or come with a float valve. The cans are sturdy - the one on my house water...
  11. What RO/DI unit to get?

I got my RO/DI at Air water and Ice - The prices are good and I have had no problems. Service has been excellent! I went with the typhoon III. In my case i swapped out two of the carbon for sediment filters since i use well water. www.airwaterice.com
  12. Would like to add a schooling fish

Thanx for the advice. I will have to take a closer look. The bartletts I saw formed such a beautiful school that they almost got me hooked on an impulse buy, but I am in no hurry - guess its time to go and get a good book on fish.
  13. Would like to add a schooling fish

Well its time - the family is pushing for the addition of more fish to my tank. Currently we have a yellow tang, six line wrasse, two false clowns and a zebra gobi. (If my grandson has his way we would have the whole Nemo cast in there). The tank is an established 180 (1.5 years) with mostly...
  14. Clown teasing Gramma

Nice pics! Could you tell me what the yellow columns are? I saw them in the LFS this weekend, but I was on a hardware hunt and did not get a chance to ask. They dominated some of the display tanks with their bright colors. BTW Good luck with the fishies- I hope they will be able to work it out.
