  1. Check This Tank Out!

wonder if was in QT before adding
  2. Potter's angel

Think that's the thing, once established they're okay. I got one that had been with a follow reefer for a year+ and placed in a 20g macro fuge that I isolated as a QT tank. Put a skimmer on the tank, water changes etc but fish died after 18 days.
  3. ALK .. Ca.. and Mg water chemistry

Find the main thing is Mg and Ca stays close to a 3:1 ratio. Had been pushing in Ca but couldn't get it to stay up. End up the last few pails of IO salt the Mg was testing in round 900 ppm. Once started supplementing the change water to a Mg of 1300ppm no problem maintaining the Ca.
  4. Easy and Accurate CA tests?

One reason I like Salifert, just press the syringe until the colour changes in the test vial. Still has a lookup chart but at least not counting drops.
  5. Pistol Shrimp vs Acro crab

has your pistol shirmp/goby pair actually paired back up in your tank? If so wondering how long?
  6. Best line width from return pump… head loss

know any calculator that can handle (are how do existing handle) different size of pipe. Example running from the pump to the tank in 2", 1" bulkhead in the bottom of the tank, then last 2 feet as 1"
  7. Durso Standpipe

I'll keep the return pump going if I pull the Durso to ensure the fish gets washed through as the overflow the clown goes in, probably has 15 foot horizontal run to the sump. Since all systems are different, one of the things you need to do with a Durso is tune it. Start with a small hole and...
  8. My design for a sump what you think ^.^?

Going from you picture on the right, for overflow if running the Herbie style drain (one valve restricted standpipe, one unrestricted backup) you don't need the down turned elbows. Also the water will backup over the primary so might need the drain lower (with about 230gph and a 1" bulkhead on...
  9. Durso Standpipe

If I get a fish in the overflow and can't net him out, I'll pull the Durso so I can get him in the filter sock, so I'll run without a Durso every once and a while. Caution is, can your sump handle the volume of water that's in the overflow tower? As for the slurping, it's that the Durso is not...
  10. Controllers, are they worth the money

I got a PLC than can basically do anything with and here all I'm using it for is a fancy temperature controller (heater and fan). Have a solenoid on my reactor CO2 and a spare probe but the reactor has settled in so haven't worried about it and the only other thing I control is my lights and...
  11. Blue Linkia: How's yours doing?

Fell off the cleaning magnet when I went to wipe the tank today. Been laying on it's back now for ~1/2 hour and hasn't moved, plus looks like the "blue" is sluffing off the tip of one leg. Think it's done. RIP after 23 months.

  13. how do you do your water changes?

I do about 10% every 2-3 weeks. To prep the water I have a Rubbermaid can in the basement which I'll fill up with 20g of ro/di, place in a couple of PHs, heater then let sit for a day. I'll then add the salt, supplement for Mg and Ca and then let mix for another day. For the water change...
  14. Interceptor!?!?!?

I've had to do it twice (think I would learn about QT after the first time but no) and though worried quite a bit the first the 3 round treatment, it does work and wouldn't hesitate to do again. It will kill cleaner shrimp if you can't get them out and will knock back the pods though leaves...
  15. tell me if this picture looks like it will work

Here's some threads on basement sumps: http://216.187.96.54/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=28266&highlight=basement http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=769218
