  1. Pic titled "Free Ride"

Found this guy hanging a ride on my hermit crab. I tried to identify something like this previously in a different part of the tank and now appears to be attached to the crab shell (and a void in its previous home). It has a black "tentacle" that searches around for food. He has doubled in...
  2. Zoas being eaten (pic included)

Snow, That is an interesting response. I do keep my tank at 82 degrees (and my fresh water tank). I live in Phoenix and when it is 110 degrees outside it is hard to keep it much cooler. All of the others polyps are opening just fine at this temp. Just a few have developed white spots and...
  3. what to add after cycling?

Have a smaller tank but after 2 months added a kenya tree first, toadstool a few weeks later and some zoas a few weeks after that. Also with a few various snails and hermit crabs (my personal favorite). I find plenty of "personality" with the creatures I have. And the numerous hitchhikers I...
  4. Zoas being eaten (pic included)

Started out in the sand. Then moved them higher in the rocks 2 weeks later. Week later is when I noticed first spots. Might lower/higher light or more/less flow be "easier" on these polyps? Or does it matter much? I am content to leave them unless someone has other suggestion.
  5. Zoas being eaten (pic included)

Thanks Len, I thought those were just amphipods. I am just going to leave things be and see what happens. Most of the polyps look great. I assume when you say physical conditions of the water you mean flow and light? I am certain that the chemical conditions are fine. Everything else...
  6. Zoas being eaten (pic included)

I don't think this is anything to worry about. Just something that happens in a new 3 month old tank. I am new to reef keeping but have previous experience w/ saltwater fish only. All my parameters are normal, so I will spare the details. 1 other Toadstool and 1 Kenya Tree, both look great...
  7. Purchasing live rock ???

Try ebay or something like it. I was able to get great live rock for $2 a pound and roughly $1 per pound shipping. $3 a pound. Just a little more than the charge for dry. I also requested what I wanted and got it.
  8. Lost Test Directions - Aquarium Pharm KH Test

    1. 5ml aquarium water (wash w/ test water first) 2. Add KH test solution one drop at a time. Count number of drops. Invert test tube several times between drops. Solution will be blue from start. When it turns yellow the test is complete. 3. Number of drops = the dKH of the sample.
  9. Aiptasia ID picture

I am certain this is aiptasia, glass anemone. Just want to get confirmation/suggestions. It is on the outside of a large snail shell recently acquired from the LFS, with several small stocks of kenya tree coral attached to the inside of the shell. The concern is on the left side of the...
  10. Toadstool with LONG Polyps

Just picked up this toadstool leather a couple days ago. Only about 3/4 of an inch tall but polyps are extending at least as high, maybe higher.
  11. Mussel is what it looks like

Still working on getting a better pic (more due to lack of a good camera than anything). He has shifted positions a few times. But this thing is definitely not mobile. Opens up like a clam shell and is filter feeding. But not the shape of a clam, more elongated.
  12. Mussel is what it looks like

Has an elongated shell. Hairy on the outside. First emerged out of the sand after about 2 months setting up the tank. Stays very still. Does open and close. Has moved slightly. Picture shows it next to a small hermit shell.
