  1. Should I buy a 200 bucket of IO?

The sale price is on their website: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=4854 So the general thought is that the gradual use of this 200 gallon bucket of salt over a 10-month period (5 gallon water changes a week) would not degrade the salt quality? It would be a big...
  2. Should I buy a 200 bucket of IO?

Okay, the title should obviously read 200 GALLON bucket of IO!
  3. Should I buy a 200 bucket of IO?

Thanks to Kenny, I found out that Pet Warehouse/Dr. Foster Smith is running a deal on IO with 200 gallon buckets for $40.49 + $7.99 shipping. That would be a really good deal for me since I am paying high LFS salt prices. The issue is that I have a small 20 gallon tank and only change 5...
  4. SURVEY - Can a Reef be maintained w/out sump/refugium?

I have a 20 gallon reef that also uses a Fluval 404. I don't have a sump or refugium or skimmer either. The Fluval is empty of all media and I clean it religiously. Since my tank is so small, the Fluval makes water changes a breeze. The Fluval holds about 3 gallons of water. I therefore do...
  5. lighting

I have a 20 gallon reef and just replaced my pc lights with 2 x 75 watt VHO bulbs, one actinic and one actinic white. IMO the tank looks much better, the colors flouresce very nicely! I also think the VHO seem to run cooler than the pc's.
  6. what do you think of Premium Aquatics uncured liverock?

I agree with SPC, get the best live rock quality live rock you can buy. I have set up 3 nanos (5, 10, & 15 gallons) in the past 2 years and IMO you can't go wrong with Paragon Aquatics live rock. Since I am buying such small quantities, I get the really nice cured show rock, which I think is...
  7. trying to dig up some charleston reefers

I just recently moved from Charleston. The best LFS in town is Tideline Aquatics, which is located in North Charleston. Their live rock sucks but they generally have a nice coral and fish selection. The best thing is the condition of the tanks and livestock. Very clean and very healthy. You...
  8. 30gal XH

I had a 30 XH tank set up for about 2 years but took it down for an out-of-state move. I agree, the XH is not the most desirable tank. But I had a 20H (24 x 12) stand and canopy and I wanted a bigger tank than 20 gallons, so I went with the 30 XH. I had a CPR BakPak and 2 MJ1200s behind the...
  9. Tearing my 55gal down....want to still keep a reef 10 gal su

I have a 5.5 gallon nanoreef that I have had for 2 years. I know it's not a 10 gallon but I would think the maintenance and requirements would be similiar. My nano has 2x32 watts of CSL power compacts. I have a fan in my canopy for the summertime, but you may not need it with the bigger water...
  10. Tearing my 55gal down....want to still keep a reef 10 gal su

Lunchbucket, I made a wooden canopy for my 5.5. I originally made it open-backed for possible heat issues, but I modified it with duct tape to close up most of the back. I have a small fan in the canopy that I use in the summer for about 7 hours a day. In the winter my apartment is cold so I...
