  1. setting up a new tank

diluted muratic acid.... get it at pool supply, home depot, etc. File the tank and let it sit....
  2. Banded Trochus Spawning?????????

What I have noticed is that trochus babies look almost like a stometella snail....there shell is not pointed, more rounded, and there foot is to big to fully retract. But the shell has the striped markings. Then as they get bigger say larger then 1/4" they start looking more like the an adult...
  3. help nitrate are high ?????????

10ppm is not bad but it cant hurt to do a water change. Or up the frequence of water changes you perform. My nitrates do run at 0 on a Lamotte test kit but that was after adding a refugium with macros.
  4. skimmer replacement (let the battles begin)

Everything that I have heard about the myreef skimmers has been positive. Also you could get away with the MR-1 model on a 100G. I own and olde Aqua-C 150 and it does a decent job but nothing spectacular. I will be going with a Lifereef or Euroreef. If money was tighter I would look at a...
  5. Refugium LOA possibilities?

I have 2 LOA over my 40G refugium. Works well. The macros grow like crazy and I even have a hitch hiker mushroom that is doing well. http://home.austin.rr.com/endymion/refugium.html
  6. Starting a Saltwater Tank...... guidence needed

You can find southdown in the North East at Home Depot as tropical play sand.
  7. Best brand of test kits

I use Lamotte for alk, nitrate, phosphate (low level) and Salifert for Calcium.
  8. What do you feed your refugium?

I feed mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, phytoplankton, and that stinky food recipe from Borneman's book. I think he calls it flavorful or aromatic. Its got clams, oysters, mussels, shrimp, couple types of seaweed, blue-green algae, selcon, marine flakes, marine pellets, brine, mysis, and whatever...
  9. Refugium

oh well I just killed what I though was some form of aptasia....It was open at night and was clear as glass. And forgot to add... My refugium lets me have a lots of green plants like a FW plant tank without it impacting my main tank. http://home.austin.rr.com/endymion/refugium.html [ July...
  10. Skimmer thoughts....

I will probable get a Euro-reef CS8-2 or CS8-3. Quiter then a beckett injector based skimmmer and doesn'nt need a current hogging pump. But they are in sump only.
  11. Alternative to Powerheads for Circ...

I am looking at using a couple ampmaster 3000s for 180 in the planning stage. One for return and the other for closed loop on a couple of sea swirls. What do you use on the end of the closed loop, A spray bar or something else? I thinking maybe I should use the sea swirls for the return and...
  12. Alternative to Powerheads for Circ...

MYREEF - did you get rid of your maxijets and replace it with these closed loops?
  13. Alternative to Powerheads for Circ...

Get an external pump and create closed loop (technically this is not a closed loop since the tank is open to the air) with some sea swirls or spray bars. Basically drill some more holes in your tank, add bulk heads, run pipe to the intake of the pump, run pipe from outlet to the sea swirls or...
  14. Starting a Saltwater Tank...... guidence needed

Since no one has replied to your $350 price target. You could get a decent fish only setup for $350 new. You definitely could get a nice FO setup used for $350 in your size range. I do not think you could setup a reef tank new tank for $350 unless you can find a good deal for used equipment...
  15. Octopus 3000 or Neptune????

I have an aquacontroller II. I like it what else do you want to know? I can not tell you if it is better then a Neptune.
