  1. Is this "true blue xenia"?

That said... field observers don't have the benefit of the kind of long term, daily observation of individual corals like we do, and Fabricius and Alderslade use the descriptor "sometimes branching" for xenia. The fact that Heteroxenia is described as "non branching" tells me that wild colonies...
  2. Is this "true blue xenia"?

As if this isn't confusing enough. Here is different blue/green, I belive Anthelia/Sansibia since there is no stalk to be found that I was fortunate enough to acquire. I think this is closer in species to what Tommy has. The first picture is under cloudy 100% natural light. The second...
  3. Is this "true blue xenia"?

Hmm... maybe an issue of semantics. I guess that you could say that xenia that appears to be branching (as it often does) is all destined to completely divide, so is not truly branching. I also have colonies of Cespitularia and agree that the branching it exhibits is quite distinctive from the...
  4. Is this "true blue xenia"?

Justin, What Atlantis sells is Cespitularia which is non pulsing (like you said). It is easy to tell the two apart, Cespitularia braches and this Xenia does not. This is a picture of my Cespitularia: http://www.thecoralnursery.com/newsite/ ... ia_md2.JPG Adam, I tried to find siphonozoids...
  5. Is this "true blue xenia"?

Thanks Tropic, Although sansibia and anthelia are said to be difficult to tell apart, I believe that most of what is commonly called blue xenia is a brown anthelia with grayish blue highlights on the polyps. It too is very common in LFS in my area. This is different than the coral that I...
  6. Is this "true blue xenia"?

I have to admitt that I'm starting to get very frustrated with trying to id this coral. I was pretty sure that sansibia was more like anthelia which does not have a stalk but instead encrusts low on the rocks and each polyp comes off of the encrusted mat. But this page shows both forms...
  7. Is this "true blue xenia"?

    Thank You Crissy.
  8. Is this "true blue xenia"?

Tommy108, Could you take a picture of it closed up so that we can see if it has a stalk. If it does then it's Xenia or Heteroxinia and not Anthelia. I recently found a Xenia with similar color but seemingly more intense blue than your picture and have been trying to find information on it...
  9. collecting clarions back in the day

I am a firm believer that awareness of something can equal long term survival, when that which we are aware of is something that we desired and has a high value placed on it. If they were managed in a sustainable manner the result of their “controlled” distribution across the globe would...
  10. collecting clarions back in the day

I see them once in a while at LFS. Can they be collected from other countries? Mexico, Central A.
  11. collecting clarions back in the day

So what is the law on collecting them at this point?
  12. SOMEONE HELP, I SAW SOMETHING IN MY TANK!

The brown stuff on the back is just brown diatom algae. Snails will take care of that. Just make sure you don't have Copper medicines in the water. Even if you used it a long time ago it could still kill your snails. If the tank is not invert safe then forget that idea. The stuff on the...
  13. do tangs pair up?

I have had compatible pairs(2) of yellows and currently have a spawing pair of purples in my large reef tank. The purples have been in my system for over 5 years now. They spawn very regularly and I have confirmed the release of eggs. Click on the Purple Tangs link under Movies of Spawning...
  14. Pics of some new frags

Louey, Yes it's good to see that coral get it's deserved attention. It is a sweet coral. DanConnor, glad to see that you got a piece of the Leng Sy Like monti. That's another very nice coral. I'm Monti nut. :P Rafael
  15. Pics of some new frags

I'm pretty sure that your "Indo Purple Tip" is a Miami Orchid stag. ORA originally got that coral from one of my monther colonies years ago. The plug it's mounted on looks like an ORA plug as well. Hope this helps. Rafael
