Save yourself the time and money and just buy some big goldfish. I would look into the idea of keeping more than one per tank. Have you done any research on them? It could be a expensive gamble to buy 2 and watch one beat the crap out of the other. I thought live aquaria had them on sale...
Get a bigger tank because in a year or to your going to wish that you did it in the first place. Buy a good skimmer, halide light(s) and yes have a sump. You can use another fish tank for a sump.
Good Luck
You may want to contact Joe Lichtenbert who's mentioned in Joyce Wilkersons book. I only met him once about a year ago when i bought a pair of clowns from him but he is a really nice guy who may be able to help out. If you want his email address PM me. I don't want to post it here without him...
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these pumps. They seem priced pretty cheap and was wondering if it was a "you get what you pay for" type thing. They wouldn't be used continously nor for a wakemaker. I was just thinking of picking a couple up for utility pumps.
Thanks
Well I can't help you with a place to drill your tank but here's a link to a place where you can get your own bit.

I stopped by Beyond the Reef earlier today and I told myself when i left that I wouldn't come back. The corals there do not look very healthy #1 the prices are pretty high IMO on par with if not higher than Living Sea. He had a couple purple tangs which just looked awful and were priced @...
Where are you located in the Chicago area? HAve you set up your system yet? What are your plans? softy tank? SPS? LPS? Welcome to Chicago. There are some good stores around.
If your staying in or close to downtown i would just hit the Shedd and maybe take a cab ride to Old Town Aquarium ( intersection of North and Wells) but if you have the chance and ability to hit Living Sea Aquarium it's worth the ride.
I purchased a 4 x 5 watt PC retro about a year ago and the actinic bulbs were shipped in their coralife boxes. I don't know if they use those exclusively or if they buy from a vendor who gives them deals on different brands at different times.
