  1. creating live rock

Looking for some opinions here.. I'll try to keep this brief but still want to give the full story. 1.5 years ago my GF setup a saltwater tank, 28 gallon bowfront. Probably around 25lbs of live rock, one big show piece, and a couple other little pieces.. from different vendors. She also put...
  2. Naturaly buffering top-off water

wow quick response, thanks. Bummer though, thought it might help with CA.. I hate dosing and CO2 is out of the question... On to other projects then :)
  3. Naturaly buffering top-off water

I had this plan some time ago, but never did it. Basically, I want to build a tank (around 8 gallon capacity) to perform auto-top off with fresh water. Since this water is just sitting there, what would happen if the tank had a thin layer of say, crushed oyster shells, sand, or maybe just...

Thanks for your reply. I figured with the amount of rockwork I have that the angel would be satisfied.. never counted on it harassing the clown, figured it would be the other way around if anything. Moving the angel to another tank today till I figure out what to do with it.

  6. Lighting suggestions

Thanks for the link Wazzel. It almost seems like it would be too blue.. I like the blue but worried it would drown out the other colors... but then I see that yellow tang just glowing so I guess that's not the case. :) Are the pics pretty close to how it looks in person? I know cameras...
  7. Lighting suggestions

Thanks for the quick replies! As for the ballast, yeah I'd love to go ice cap but.. well, money is an issue. Hope I don't get flamed but I was going to try and use a workhorse 7 electronic ballast. I figure for 35 bucks it's worth a shot. I've already modified the light fixture that came...
  8. Lighting suggestions

I've decided to convert my tank into reef and am having some trouble deciding which lights I want, so I thought I'd go ahead and post and let you experts chime in. I'm going to go ahead and go with VHO.. the tank is a 29gallon. I want to to run dual 24" lights, so a total of 150watts. From...
