Why didn't you just use glass instead of acrylic? Plate glass is cheaper and the silicone will hold it in place forever. The silicone will not hold the acylic.
Without seeing some pics it's hard to be sure. But it sounds like the gorg is just shedding it's outer layer. This is very common for gorgonians and leather corals. The shed the outer waxy layer of tissue to ride themselves of algae that have begun to grow on them. If it starts to happen...
Valves & Unions:
Always buy threaded valves (not slip unless you never plan on modifying your setup) they are a couple of dollars more each, but they can be reused and reconfigured endlessly.
Tubing / pipe:
I prefer to use vinyl flexible tubing as much as possible. It is inexpensive, easy to...
I would reccomend that you purchase half or one quarter of the suggested lbs. per gallon, unless your planning on stocking your tank with only frags. Remember that most corals you buy are already attached to rocks. There's nothing worse than taking out rock you paid $10/lb for and having to...
Well I'm acutaully using it for tide simulation in conjunction with two SCWD. The problem is the Chemtrol valve comes with 3 position ball standard and is special order for 2 position, $$$. If I can find a source to sell me just the ball I'll do the retrofit myself.
The 2 way / 3 way has to do with number of positions. 3 position is on left - off - on right. The 2 position is on right - on left, no off position. Therefore no back pressure on the pump. I'm using a 3/4" chemtrol valve now but want to upgrade to 1" and I don't feel like dropping another $178...
I'm looking for an alternate source for a 1" dia. 3 way / 2 position diverter valve and actuator mounting kit. I have a price from EPAC in Texas for $178, but the price seems a little high. I've seen a similar valve at US Plastics for $84 except it is a 3 way / 3 position, but they said the...
I take a full sheet of Nori and roll up as tight as I can. Then I attach it to a piece of LR with 4 rubber bands. It helps keep the shredding to minimum.

I'm planning on doing something similar with my next tank. I am going to run a 1/2" or 3/8" diameter pipe in the ground under my basement slab and circulate the tank water through it. The pump will be controlled by my medusa controller. Just remember you want to use a small diameter...
I used the "Sump Volume Calculator" on reef Central and came up with this:
Using the following input parameters
Tank Length = 62.5 inches
Tank Width = 17.2 inches
Height of Water above Overflow = 2 inches
Flow through sump = 2400 gph
Sump volume is calculated as
Sump Volume need to handle tank...

Just wrap the teflon tape around the male threads 4 or 5 times or more as needed. But make sure you wrap the tape in the opposite direction that you need to screw in the MPT.
