  1. HOT TIP Submissions -- Topic: Powerhead Hiding Tips

I kept the bottom part clear, so when it needed cleaning I just removed the nozzle and impeller and left the motor housing in the tank. I used one of those little tube cleaner brushes with the flexible stem to clean the impeller hole. Then again, it never got jammed while I had the powerhead...
  2. HOT TIP Submissions -- Topic: Powerhead Hiding Tips

A few months, if they're growing well. It helps to start with a good sized "sheet" of polyps.
  3. HOT TIP Submissions -- Topic: Powerhead Hiding Tips

Try using a rubber band to attach some zoanthids to the powerhead. The polyps also securely anchor the powerhead to the glass. Just make sure you keep the intake clear!
  4. Cleaning a Gemini pump

There's quite a bit of algae growth inside the plastic, and I'm worried that it will affect the motor. Unfortunately I got it off an auction as a used pump, so there's no LFS to turn to. I'll try contacting Aquarium Systems, I guess. I wonder why these pumps aren't more widely sold? Are they...
  5. Cleaning a Gemini pump

Does the impeller of an Aquarium Systems Geimini pump come off? I need to get into the section above the impeller... I can screw it off the motor housing but it won't come completely off since the impeller holds it in place. :?: Thanks, Ken
  6. Best anemone for a small reef!

Phymanthus crucifer (rock anemones) stay pretty small, and tend to stay put too. They also come in many different colors. Ken

  8. Serpulid Feather Duster

I had one that was irritating the mantle of a tridacna clam, and I took some large toenail clippers (the kind with pointed tips) and cut and crushed the shell of the vermitid to remove it. Ken
  9. website update

Thanks, guys! Steve, I haven't had any problems with restart yet (knock on wood). I used a Mag 5 before the 7, and I had to keep replacing the impellers on the 5 because they kept breaking for some reason (blades would shatter). The first time it was because the "safety" strainer (the one used...

  11. coral banded shrimp

As far as I can tell, banded coral shrimp (Stenopus) are not hermaphroditic; the males stay males and the females stay females (unlike the Lysmata cleaner shrimps which take turns laying eggs). A mated pair of Stenopus is really fun to watch! The male will actually feed the female by collecting...
  12. feedback on website

Thanks, folks! SPC, yes the watchman gobies do get along. I got them as a "pair," since they were sitting together in the same cube at the pet store. I think I might have a mated pair because one of the fish seems to have a heavier more "macho" looking head to it. tetra, the xenia does pulse...

Hi everybody, I've had to move my website because the old host shut down. Please drop by and visit and let me know if everything works. Thanks! Ken
  14. Check out my sexy shrimp!

Cool pic of a Thor amboinensis! Mine like to hang around their Phymantus anemone, but will sit in the Condylactis too. I hoped they would live in my Ricordeas, but they never did. Ken
  15. How many people name their fish???

My niece named the critters in my tank. Blue damsel = Blue Royal gramma = Magenta Pair of yellow watchman gobies = Mr. and Mrs. Lello Neon goby = Neo Tomato Clown = Clownfish (she wouldn't budge on this one) Sea cucumber = Mr. Caca Ken [ July 27, 2001: Message edited by: Ken ]
