  1. Help with an ID...

Looks like a variety of Sargassum. Just pull it up if you want to get rid of it. Liam.
  2. Nassarius vs. Hermits

Likewise. red-legs & blue legs (tho' only about 1 dozen of each in a 200gallon). Never seen signs of predation on Naussarius but a blue leg killed a turbo on at least one occasion and took possession of the shell. Liam
  3. help my tang has ick

Hope your tang gets better soon. FWIW garlic worked for me. Total aside: is there any truth in the rumour that clams can remove ich in its free-swimming stage? Liam
  4. help (fresh water)

Go with SPCs advice siphon the crud via the uplifts. Don't remove the UG plates (too much upheaval) just leave them in & stop airing/pumping them.
  5. Refugia

I'm about to add a second refugium to my system. The first (25g imperial)which has been running for 2 years is sat next to my main tank. Return from the sump to the main tank is via the refugium. The refugium and main tank are drilled to 40mm (inch and a half) and plumbed together. What i want...
  6. refugia lighting....

I use 60W of PC lighting with colour temp. of 4000K. It's on 14 hours/day (reverse photo-period). It's been running like this for 2years and the caulerpa grows well and has never gone sexual. Hope you have success, Liam
  7. Need help with aptasia near Clam

In my experience, Peppermint shrimps (Lysmata Wurdemanni) will sort out Aiptasia. Unfortunately the ones i had were partial to yellow button polyps too! Still i'd rather be aip-free than keep yellow buttons. Liam
  8. Not My Fault Mentality

I certainly don't dispute that our hobby has an effect on the deterioration of reefs. Me personally, I'm a big fan of radical thinking (and keeping the thread on topic!). Instead of limiting the debate to what can be done to change the reefkeeping hobby, why can't we discuss the big picture...

  10. Not My Fault Mentality

Rover, It's a question of balance. Let's say there's this tree I like which is about to be bulldozed to make way for a bypass. I'd consider it more productive to do something about stopping the road being built than sorting out the tree's Red Spider Mite infestation. Look at the major issues...

  12. Not My Fault Mentality

James, While I agree with your sentiments, I feel personally that the threat to habitat is more significant to reef deterioration than legitimate collection for the aquatic industry. Pollution, soil erosion effects, building using coral rock cause untold damage to reefs. Another thought, I...

  14. Mysterious Tang Demise

I have a sailfin tang in a 4' tank, with a sump on reverse daylight photoperiod. Every few days i swap one of the algae covered rocks from the sump with one in the main tank. Between the tang and the urchin in the tank (trying to breed Bangaii Cardinals) they clean off the rock, repeat when...
  15. Visit to Pittsburgh Zoo Aquarium made me feel good about my

I ate in the Rainforest Cafe at The Animal Kingdom, Orlando last year. They have a couple of V.large fish only tanks with some large and POTENTIALLY impressive fish, mostly angels and tangs. Every one was suffering in some way, most had bad HLLE. And this lot make money from conservation? Food...
