IMO, bio-balls is definitely one of the cause. Also u may need to do water change for a few of time. When I had a NO3 boom, I did 6x25% + 2x50% before I managed to bought it down. Btw, yr alk is too low. Need to bring it up to 10-11. Good luck.

Hi guys, My tank is also having a little GHA problem (just a small patch on a LR). Bought a 2" YT & a Lawnmower Blenny few weeks ago. Both of them DON'T even look at the GHA. I'm loss here. My LFS recommended a Kole Tang instead. But the price is double of the YT.

rowan, U can still use yr canister after the tank mature. Yr LS & LR will do the bio-filteration for u (provide u control yr bio-load). Yr canisters will act as mechanical & chemical filter. Yr canisters will also act as a good water circulation for yr tank. U can save on adding power heads...

I new in reef tank. Can someone please tell me what is cyano & what is the cause of it? I have came across this word several times. I only found out what happen when NO3 is too high. Am still fighting it. So, I would like to be prepared & prevent this "cyano" before it take place. Thanks everyone.
