  1. YELLOW TANG

is the fish acting okay, is it eating well? if it's eating and acting normally, then i wouldn't worry.
  2. YELLOW TANG

the white line is visible when the lights are out on yellow tangs... are you seeing this with lights on or just off or right after they come on? if it is when the lights are off, that is perfectly normal. what does your last line say? 2nd tang you're about to lose in 4 days?
  3. What do Lyretail Athias eat?

as was already mentioned, i'd try some live brine shrimp, etc. to get them feeding now... they won't last a couple days without food. when you get them to eat, they need to eat 2-3 times a day. once they are eating, i've had good luck with the frozen mysis shrimp that premium sells. let some...
  4. Reef tank questions...

a two month old cycled tank is plenty ready for water changes... on the tanks i maintain, i do 5-10% a week. everyone has a different schedule though... you'll have to find what works best for you. you don't need to add calcium and alk supplements to an unstocked tank... there's nothing to...
  5. how warm????

cooler water temps are also better for O2 saturation... you only mention fish in your post. if it's a FO tank, run it at 78°-80°. this provides you some margin of error re: overheating and will also provide higher O2 levels for the fish which is always good IMO :)
  6. Blue Tang Problem

i've had lots of tangs over the years and never had one develop lateral line disease (although i've nursed a few back to health from this problem). best thing to do is a varied, healthy diet as mentioned... lots of algae sheets, formula I and II, mysis shrimp, etc. feed him a healthy diet and...
  7. parasitic snails on clam?

  8. New clarkii possibly sick?

Is the fish doing this when the lights are off? Does it swim around normally once the lights come on? If so, this it completely normal. Most clowns will pick a spot in the tank to "sleep" and just kind of hover there when the lights are off. As long as it swims around normally and eats well...
  9. Heat Problem

You have a couple of powerheads that put off some pretty good heat. This is fairly normal however (I only use powerheads when mixing up my salt for circ. and heat ). If you have two fans on the 400w, it really should not add much heat to the tank. If it does, you can better ventilate the...
  10. Newbie algae problem

Be patient This is par for the course on a new tank. Keep doing regular water changes and go very slow on stocking the tank for the first 6 mos. to a year. As the tank matures, it will be able to handle the bio load and the algae will eventually disappear. Good luck!
  11. Halimeda Dying

When are you noticing the turn to white? This particular algae will turn white during the lights off phase and then green up again during the daylight hours. If this is what you are seeing, it is perfectly normal. As long as calcium and alkalinity levels are high, I've not had problems...
  12. Help with unlevel tank

You can fix this in 5 seconds Get yourself a yard stick and a crow bar. Sounds scary eh? Put the crow bar under the sagging end of the tank STAND and lift a mere 1/4" or whatever it takes to place the yardstick under the bottom of the stand. Release and walla! I've done this several times...
  13. Spawning Cleaner Shrimp

I don't have any pics to post, but it is rather easy to see if you have a shrimp carrying eggs. They carry them along the underside of their body. In a cleaner shrimp, they are typically a very light greenish color. A pair of shrimp will spawn every couple of weeks. This usually occurs...
  14. FROGS GETTING CLOSE TO TOADSTOOL??

Frogspawn (or any euphyllia and most LPS corals for that matter) can put out sweeper tentacles that are several inches long. These can definitely sting other corals. If they end up touching, your toadstool will definitely be damaged. I'd find one of 'em a new spot soon
  15. VHO advice

If you think that your current setup is too "purple", then I would definitely try to add more white light. The more white light that you use, the more intensity you are getting for the same wattage. In other words, your corals stand to benefit more from the Aquasuns first, then 50/50 and...
