  1. New lights for a 37 gallon... New hood required

Hmm. That doesn't sound too difficult. So after buying the amounts of wood that you suggested, it would simply be common sense and preference as to where they should go? If I'm going to build my own hood, then what I'm thinking is this: I already have a 2x55 watt retrofit kit from AHSupply. One...
  2. New lights for a 37 gallon... New hood required

How did you make that? Did you find instructions or build it from scratch? Was it hard to assemble? Sorry again for the questions. Doing that would provide more lighting, but it would also cost more. I see that you've done it, so would it be a much better bet than to buy a pre-made hood?
  3. New lights for a 37 gallon... New hood required

Sorry, I was out yesterday and didn't get to see the responses! As far as getting AGA canopy, would it be fairly simple to mount the lights onto it? As in, screw them in and I'm done? Or would it be a little more labor intensive? Also, if I wanted to get the 4x55 watt helios system, which is...
  4. New lights for a 37 gallon... New hood required

So you're saying that I should just buy a new hood with the lights attached? Are power compacts the way to go in my case? If so, do you know of any good online places to buy them? I had taken a look at http://www.hellolights.com/helligsys.html . Would I be able to fit the 4 x 36 watt system on...
  5. New lights for a 37 gallon... New hood required

I have a 37 gallon tank, and currently all that I have by way of lighting is (sigh) the the eclipse hood, with only two 20 watt bulbs. 1 is a 10,000 K and the other is a 50/50 blue actinic. Awhile back I had gotten 2 55 watt power compacts, 1 10,000k and the other 50/50 as well. What I hadn't...
  6. New fish for a Newbie (in mind... at least)

Thank you for your help, I'll try and find a solution once I manage to get to the fish store. I'll be sure to pick up a net, and depending on the fish I end up with I'll get the breeder traps. The rock shouldn't be too hard to move around, considering someone (not me) knocked it around a little...
  7. New fish for a Newbie (in mind... at least)

I want a larger clown? The clown that I have now is dark, which I was led to believe meant that it was female (See avatar). Wouldn't I then want to get a smaller, bright red one who would become a male? Assuming getting another clown worked out, would that end up as the last fish I could buy...
  8. New fish for a Newbie (in mind... at least)

So there is nothing that I can do, short of removing the Clownfish and Damsels? The clown and Damsels are not very large, the clown not being more than 2 inches in length, and the damsels less than that. There isn't anything that can withstand them? Were I to remove them, where would I put them...
  9. New fish for a Newbie (in mind... at least)

I've had my aquarium for about 2 years, although I still consider myself a Newbie in my mind. I currently have a 37 gallon aquarium with 2 Yellowtail Damsels and 1 Tomato Clownfish. I have a mushroom, a ton of miniature feather dusters, and a couple of snails. I was wondering what my next choice...
  10. Replacing Pumps for a Skimmer

Please excuse my ignorance, but how do these work? Do the bubble traps connect to the pump, and have the water pumped through them before it reaches the skimmer, or does it collect them before it exits the skimmer into the tank?
  11. Sometime in the future I would like to get an anemone...

I've had a small host of questions this week, and sometime in the future, after a few months (or more, when I set up my new lights) I would like to get an anemone. I have heard all that they are incredibly hard to keep, and that they will most likely die within a year. I've had my aquarium for...
  12. Seachem Marine Buffer

Ah, thank you very much. I'll look into using R/O water instead. If shaking it will help, then by golly, I'll do it! I tried stirring like crazy, to no result. Thank ye once more.
  13. Replacing Pumps for a Skimmer

Bubble trap? I've never heard of one. What do they look like, and where could I get one? Someone once suggested putting a sponge (not a live one) where the water comes out of the skimmer, but that didn't really help. Oh, and the skimmer is right on the back of my tank, so I guess that means it's...
  14. Replacing Pumps for a Skimmer

I have the infamous Seaclone Skimmer, and recently, the Maxi-Jet 1000 pump that was running it kicked out. It's either really clogged, which I can fix, or it's just worn out. I needed to get a replacement, and the only one available was a Rio 800. I put it in, and everything seems to be working...
  15. Seachem Marine Buffer

I have Seachem Marine Buffer, which I've been using to keep my pH at 8.2. I would put some dechlorinated water into a container, add, the Marine Buffer, and then I would mix it, and eventually, it would clear. As of late, however, it hasn't been clearing all that much, and I can't seem to get it...
