1. Water Change question for Wade

Hi Wade, Very nice tank. Thanks for the article on water changes. I also have automated my water change regimen. My system consists of total water volume of +/- 130 gallons. Currently, I change 1 gallon of water daily or 30 gallons a month which equates to a 23% water change. My question...
2. Opinions on this Kalk dosing method?

Rob, An inexpensive and easy way to drip kalk, that I have found, is using a small power head and an electronic timer from Home Depot. Total cost +/- $35.00. I hook the small tubing into the venturi hole in the power head and cap off the main power head output. Then have the timer do its...
3. Quiet Skimmer Needed!

I would suggest Lifereef. You can contact Jeff at www.lifereef.com/. His skimmers utilized a venturi that is about as quiet as you will find. IME - you will not be dissatisfied with his product. Good Luck.
4. Help making a Kalk dripper? or better ideas?

I had the same problem but not anymore. Now, I use a small powerhead (retrofitted to push water through the small tubing and valve) with a digital timer from HD that can be cycled on/off by the minute. It works without any problems at little $$. Good luck.
5. Really tired of this hair algea....

If I may make a suggestion...in my experience a lawn mower blenny will not eat the hair algae (at least not very well). My suggestion would be to get either a rabbitt fish and/or a sailfin tang - they love hair algae. I am suggesting the following fish b/c I have been through a similar...
6. Does TDS rise when water sits in a container?

bpnc, RO water is very aggressive due to it being in a pure state. Tap water is not, for example. Therefore, RO water will literally attack and extract things from the container, or anything else it comes in contact with (i.e. even the tubing it runs through). That is why the...
7. Rain water?

Harry, Good question and worth looking into, IMO. So far, I have not heard one valid reason for you not to have the rainwater tested in your area. If it comes back clean, go for it. Your idea is not the norm but has merit. Not only is it more environmentally friendly but saves money...
8. Vario or litermeter

No experience with either of the expensive products you reference. If you are interested in saving some money, I would suggest you look into a used medical equipment company. You can find reliable, used peristaltic pumps cheap. Just a thought. FYI - I dose my kalk 24/7 and I dose phyto 24/7...

quote:
Originally posted by pghflame: You need coral viagra.

Very funny. Seriously, I have a large Kenya Tree coral that is moody and will occasionally go "limp". It will be in a bad...
10. Pump Question Please

Ph, You hit the nail on the head. I guess I am trying to determine how much water I can force through the 1/2" ball valve and how strong of a pump is needed to do that. Thanks. PDDII
11. Pump Question Please

Hi all, I need suggestions for a strong pump to handle the following: I am running a 120 gallon tank with a sump in the basement. I have set up a "closed" loop with the return dropping approx. 6' to the proposed pump and a 1/2" actuated valve. My return line from the tank is 1 1/2" and my...
12. Phyto Culturing Gurus...

Jeff, Thanks for the reponse. Can you tell me why the cell count would be less with your homemade stuff vs. DTs? Thanks again. PDD
13. Phyto Culturing Gurus...

How much home made brew do you feed vs. DT's? Thanks much. PDD
14. Are there ANY butterflys that are reef safe?

Go to Bob Fenner's web site at www.wetwebmedia.com - e mail him the question and he will tell you (I think) quite a few options. Good luck.
