1. Christmas Tree worms hard to keep?

Busted!!
2. copper banded butterfly fish/apistasia(sp)

Peppermint shrimp DO NOT work every time. I have a copperband in my 135G SPS reef, and he's a great fish. It is not a fish for everyone however. It was very difficult to wean him onto frozen foods. He will eat frozen brine and mysis shrimp. He gets the bulk of his food from critters living...
3. Butterflies and aptaisa

I've got a copperband butterfly also. He eats all the aiptasia I can put in the tank. I grow it in a 10 gallon for him. They can be tricky to feed, so make sure you are ready for the challenge. Try live brine shrimp and frozen mysis shrimp.
4. Powder Blue Tang Poll: Success or Failure

I've had my powder blue tang for a year now. I special ordered it, and it was collected in Bali. I was at the store to pick it up when it arrived, so it went straight from the ocean into my 135G tank, nice and fat. I bought a bag of live brine shrimp while I was at the store, and fed the tang...
5. Powder Blue Tang and Achilles Tang together?

quote:
Originally posted by naesco: Powder Blue tangs are almost impossible to keep although some have had sucess. 6. Where are all the good aquariums?

New Orleans has a decent aquarium.
7. water softener

Its just tap water run through salt pellets. It lowers the water hardness. You should use RO water, or some other equivalent you know is free of impurities.
8. refractometer or pinpoint salinity monitor

Personally, I just aim for a stable salinity rather than the numerically perfect salinity. My quirky pinpoint is good enough for that. I just fill it up, pour it out, and fill it back up (helps get rid of bubbles) and if the needle is where it was the day before I am fine. If I had the...
9. Sarcophyton and SPS

I have two large sarcos (one eight inches across, the other fourteen), four babies about two inches across, with SPS and various xenia in a 135G.
10. Is this Aiptasia?

I think theyre yellow polyps, but its a tough call. I've seen Jeff's get in 20-30 rocks of yellow polyps that were all a translucent dark yellow color (almost brown) before. It depends where theyre collected, I suppose. Most aiptasia I've seen have longer, stringier tentacles, although I know...
11. Why do I have a funny feeling to set up another tank

I was thinking the same thing today. I have a spare 55G tank and stand in my closet, a spare dolphin pump, a spare sump, a spare remora pro, 150 pounds of spare southdown sand, and I have about 60 pounds excess rock in my main tank Im planning to remove. All I need are lights. If the...
12. Chemical Composition of "Miracle Mud"

FINALLY! This is really interesting. When I visited their store, they went on and on about how it cures disease in fish. Of course copper is used to treat fish, I wonder if the metals in miracle mud may actually work on similar lines? Just a dumb guess. Any theories on how this analysis...

14. unstable alkalinity

Thanks for the mag info. What do you mean by the effluent's causing it? Too low of an output? Is there any way I can test the effluent? The readings are off the scale for both calc and alk, which I guess is what youd expect. I remember reading that your effluent alk should be 1 meq/L higher...
15. unstable alkalinity

I checked my magnesium today, with a salifert kit. I'ts right at 1200. I'm not sure how low it was before my recent water change. I'm going to dose up to 1300-1400 to play it safe, but I haven't found any info claiming a mag level of 1200 would cause alk problems like I'm having.
