  1. what book should i ask for my birthday?

I agree with Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals, 2001. I have found it to be the best book book in my Coral library - with good, specific information concerning individual species and their captive care.
  2. Help! Opinions needed on new set up - long!

:D Weeee! Sounds like fun! My sump is only a few feet below my tank, but 8 ft. does not sound that far to me. I would definately put the skimmer in the sump, the overflow from the tank will have the biggest concentration of organics, and you will have the least bubble pollution. In this...
  3. New Pic of my 5months old

Do you have enough hermits to eat all those fish once they die? 8O It might be hard getting them out of that coral-packed box you have there. The corals look great- they can actually stay happy packed in that way. At least, they could until you packed it in with poop machines that will...
  4. Feeding Coral Beauty

Live or frozen brine? If it won't take live brine, we may be in trouble. I don't have experience firsthand with the beauty, but any carnivore that wouldn't eat a live brine shrimp is not gonna be easy.
  5. How do I kill or remove Coralline algae?

I would leave it on the back glass. It will be a source of comfort for your new inhabitants, and will bring good luck to you the next time you shoot pool.
  6. Will ick just run its course or is it better to treat it?

Letting it run its course will work. The problem is, the end result is probably dead fish! 8O I fed garlic-soaked food to my butterfly when he started showing a couple of spots and it is gone in about a week. The orchid dottyback had one tiny spot, but it is gone too. :)
  7. Image hosting recommendation for our members

I bought it as a "fuzzy mushroom", but I am pretty sure it is a Red Ricordia. Can anyone confirm this? Here is a closer pic: It is the easiest thing I have tried to frag. A tiny piece will attach to almost anything and turn into a full disk in no time. I have some rocks I have made recently...
  8. Question about light acclimation...

IMHO, I don't think 110 watts of PC are going to "shock" anything. I would run them all on an 8 hr. cycle. It is a high watts/ gallon combination, but it is still only two 55 watt PC bulbs. However, the periods you described should work just fine. :)
  9. my first mail order

Dry them out very well before you smoke 'em. They dry best if you hang them upside down in a closet. 8O
  10. Help me choose a fish

Agree with SPC. I don't know much about the coral beauty, but I think it should really have a bigger tank, shouldn't it? I think it probably swims back and forth wearing its nose out on the glass. :o
  11. Tank Bubbling????

Couldn't this be a diatom bloom that is just a result of a new tank? I think it probably is, and will pass after about a week. Just a guess.
  12. Help me choose a fish

IMHO, you have enough fish. (sorry) :( Three fish in a 29 Gallon is plenty. If the two tomato clowns get along with each other, I would just consider myself lucky and go with it. No tang would be happy in a 29.
  13. POST YOUR PICS: image hosting recommendations for reefs.org

Thanks for the help, Len! What size should we try for on the pics? (In kb, I suppose?) I don't want to bog down the dialup connections too badly. :D
  14. Image hosting recommendation for our members

:D Thanks for the tip on these sites, Len. I will stop using Webshots, it looks like Photo.net gives you the best resolution. I guess I shouldn't link to it using that big fat pic, people with dial-up will be screwed badly. Believe it or not, that says "Medium" res. (75% of my original...

That is the deal. Right click on your Photo and go to properties to get the true URL to the JPG that is linkable. BTW, Photo.net allows you to show it in MUCH bigger resolution. Both of the above photos were taken at 4 MegaPixel. PBase sized it down without me asking it to.
