  1. Sea hare and Tech-M?

This little guy is definitely doing the job! Their reputation is well deserved.
  2. Sea hare and Tech-M?

Well, I'm careful about not overfeeding, and I have a light bio-load. My big mistake was removing all the caulerpa from the tank. All it took was a bit of time away from home and no caulerpa, and voila....what a mess. The sea hare is living up to it's rep, so I think to be safe I'm not...
  3. Sea hare and Tech-M?

Anyone know if you can try the Tech-M treatment for bryopsis at the same time you have introduced a sea hare to the tank to clean up the hair algae? I got desperate last week and ordered the Tech-M, but when I was browsing at the LFS they had one of these guys and I know they are reputed to do...
  4. Nano or not....that is the question.

I always said any tank smaller than mine... Seriously, I've always considered 29-30 the nano cutoff too.
  5. Thoughts on caulerpa inside the tank?

 Lawdawg  don't hold back now.... All righty then, guess it goes in the quarantine tank awaiting a refugium setup--thanks!
  6. Thoughts on caulerpa inside the tank?

I just got my stuff from IPSF and there is a small bag of feather caulerpa. Is this ok inside my reef tank or should I save it for a refugium?
  7. Your regularly scheduled GFCI reminder

I agree. I could have burned down our new house when my HOB Aquaclear filter (which I had modified into a mini-fuge) began leaking around the motor mount gasket and dripped straight down onto a gang-plug behind my 55 reef tank stand. The sparks caught on some filter floss stored in the stand...
  8. New CPR Bal-Pak 2R

This might be old thinking, but I'd heard that micro bubbles can cause distress in corals. The Bak Pak seems to be working well now, set up for 24 hrs + and getting a little skimmate. I may look for a bubble trap at the LFS.
  9. Possibly stupid lighting question

Cool. My thinking was correct then. Good news :D
  10. New CPR Bal-Pak 2R

Yep, the micro bubbles are showing up now. I know they aren't good for corals so I have to come up with a solution. The version of Bak Pak I got doesn't come with the bio bale but I think I will try the live rock and maybe toss some of the chaeto I have in there.
  11. New CPR Bal-Pak 2R

Actually I did mean bio-bale. It looks like blue ribbon all smashed together. Or blue plastic chaetomorpha algae  Actually I was thinking of putting some chaeto into that section but I don't have any way to light it up. The live rock sounds like a good idea though, thanks!
  12. Possibly stupid lighting question

I'm using a Current USA 24" with 65w Dual Daylight and 65w Dual Actinic light on my 20 gallon nano. Plus I took the 30w PC light from my Aquafuge which I'm not using. So my dumb question is: Do I have 160 combined watts (8 watts per gallon), or do I have 95 combined watts (4.75 watts per...
  13. New CPR Bal-Pak 2R

Just got my first Bak Pak. It's on my 20 gal. nano. I've never really had a decent skimmer before, and of course always ended up sooner or later with nitrate issues in the past. What do people use in place of the bio-bale, if anything?
  14. On the hunt! We want your hitchiker pictures!

Thanks for the welcome, herpencounter. I only saw them when they came out of the polyps onto the rock. I watched them for a few days thinking "how cool, some neat slugs". Til I noticed my polyps were disappearing 8O
  15. On the hunt! We want your hitchiker pictures!

Cool thread. Hello all, this is my first post back here in about 4 years (took a long hiatus from the hobby). This little monster came hiding in my brown star polyps. As you can see it's easy to miss (see second photo). There were 3 of them and they EAT the polyps. I sucked them out with...
