  1. question re. Aquaspacelight

In an old thread from reefcentral (, someone says the nipple should point up! So, can someone give a definitive response, and say up or down in relation to what? Thanks. Sebastian Reefcentral thread follows: Posts: 15 Location: Occupation: Interests: you won't go wrong with these...
  2. question re. Aquaspacelight

By down do you mean towards the water or towards the fixture? I ask because when I install the bulbs the fixture is on the floor and facing up, so down when installing is the opposite of down when suspended over tank... thanks much! sebastian
  3. question re. Aquaspacelight

Can anyone comment on this? At least more generally, do MH bulbs have a "right" side up? thanks! sebastian
  4. Oceanic 75G setup beginner question

Two things (and I'm a beginner myself so not a real expert but do have my plumbing all done): 1) I don't think the overflow will provide enough pressure for your skimmer-- don't you need a pump in there as well? 2) As for how to connect, I too was having a hard time of it at hardware stores...
  5. What size RO/DI?????

Also, does a higher GPD mean the unit needs more water pressure? I'm about to buy an RO/DI unit but don't have much water pressure, does that mean I should get a lower GPD unit? Thanks!
  6. question re. Aquaspacelight

My 2 X 150 Aquaspacelight, with Aqualine 10000 bulbs, is making a pretty loud humming sound. Is that normal? Is it possible that it's due to the bulbs being put in the wrong way (upside down or backwards?); or do the bulbs not have a "right" way? Thanks much, Sebastian
  7. second try: water circ.!

I have an Oceanic 75 reef ready with pre-drilled overflows (although cannot remember the sizes and am not home now-- whatever is standard). I´m deciding on overall water circulation strategy. I'll have a 20G DYI sump, and have already bought an aquac 120 skimmer. QUESTIONS: 1) a mag500 pump is...
  8. water circ. for Oceanic 75 reef-ready

I have an Oceanic 75 reef ready with pre-drilled overflows (although cannot remember the sizes and am not home now-- whatever is standard). I´m deciding on overall water circulation strategy. I'll have a 20G DYI sump, and have already bought an aquac 120 skimmer. QUESTIONS: 1) a mag500 pump...
  9. $500 to spend on 75G tank lighting

Anyone care to make some concrete recommendations on best deals currently available? Can I somehow get two 250W MH pendants for the price? If so, will my lighting be "incomplete" due to no actinic supplements? Would consider any other suggestions... my basic idea is to get the best and most...
  10. specific lighting advice for 75 G Oceanic Tank

Another question as I'm setting up my system. I think I'd like to go MH if possible. If I do, can someone 1) Comment on the pros/cons of using a hood vs. pendant method, especially in terms of keeping tank cool, whether or not one can/should use glass top in either case, etc. etc. 2) Based...
  11. cheap lighting solutions?

I'm new to reef tanks (just got a 75G reef ready oceanic and stand, now researching lights). I've come accross this article, and was wondering what the opinion of others are. Is it true that one can use these general purpose bulbs? Anyone doing it? (or, if one believes the author, the real...
  12. Advice for new 75G tank owner

I'm a bit concerned about temperature w/ the 250 or say 400W MH. How high off the water would I have to keep them? Also, I've heard something like 25% of tank could get evaporated each week between lights and cooling fans... is that true? If so it seems like some topping off mechanism would...
  13. Advice for new 75G tank owner

Thanks for the response; unfortunately I feared I would get the advice to go MH now... I do think you're right though... just a lot of $$$. If I go MH, what's a good and relatively cheap setup for a 75G tank? Something modular would be great... for example, a hood where I could maybe get 1 MH...
  14. Advice for new 75G tank owner

After doing some research (including much on this forum) I've gone ahead and purchased an Oceanic 75G Reef-ready tank and stand which I'll be picking up tomorrow. I've decided to go w/ a Berlin Method tank, and have some questions: - I'd like to set up a sump from the beginning-- is a 20G...
