1. Tide Generating Tank -- Anyone tried this?!?

OP Ing, To make a statement like your last one leads the reader to believe that you have already done such experimenting with tides in captive aquaria, and that you can prove that the idea is in fact "useless". Do you have any first hand experience with this? If not, I think you should at...
2. Some anemone pictures

I do agree that they look somewhat similar to the majano anemones, but I wouldn't be able to prove that they were definitely majano anemones. Does anyone know the specific characteristics/criteria I should look for to distinguish between the two? As I mentioned before, the picture that Ben has...
3. Some anemone pictures

Nope...its an E. quadricolor aka bubbletip anemone. The bubbles are deflated in Ben's pic, which typically happens when they are getting ready to or are in the process of splitting. That is exactly what happens with the clones that I have...which you would expect, since Ben's and my anemones are...
4. Some anemone pictures

Hi Ben, Looking good! Glad to hear you are having good luck with the anemones as well! Did you ever get the clowns to pair up? Maybe we can get together for a trade sometime soon? I don't have much new in the way of SPS (that I didn't get from you) except for a fluorescent green hydnophora...
5. Can I feed my fish earthworms??

I guess I should have been a little clearer...my point was: Why feed freshwater/terrestrial foods to fish when there are similar inexpensive marine alternatives that are readily available, like dried nori, shrimp, scallops, etc.. at you local grocery store? I don't think that all of the foods...
6. Can I feed my fish earthworms??

Lynn, Avoid feeding your fish any terrestrial or freshwater foods (including things like lettuce, goldfish, etc...) whenever possible. The nutrient composition of these foods is not likely to be beneficial (and in some cases may be harmful) for your fish. ;) Chris
7. Could I keep two tangs together??

I'd say NO. A guy I knew around here had an Achilles in his 180 and it "took up a lot of space". I personally never saw any aggression between the tang and any of his other fish, but I was only over there a few times. He also didn't have any other tangs in the tank, but ended up trading it away...
8. Anemone Experts: Lights for BTA

I agree with Anemone...VHOs are great. Get an IceCap 660 with 4 VHOs (2 white, 2 actinic). This is the exact setup I'm using on my 75g and my green BTA has split five times in the last 6 months. Chris
9. What happened to the contest?

Did I miss the results...or have they not been posted yet? Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it! Chris
10. AMBIENT LIGHT CAUSING HAIR ALGAE????

Check for phosphates coming out of the TWP cartridge...I was using one piggy-backed onto my RO system and measured insanely high phosphates in my make-up water. Note that this was well before the DI resin had even halfway changed color! Now that I have switched to a Spectrapure add-on DI...
11. Contest - YES, you do have to get all 12 :-)

I think I got all 12 too...but I'm not too sure! Either way, it was fun...good idea guys! Chris
12. Eheim Surface Protein Extractor (Skimmer)

If you are going to give one of these devices a try, I would go with the one made by Fluval. It is similar in design, but only costs $9.99 (That Fish Place). I think there were a few threads about these in the "Nano Reefs" forum at Reef Central. You might want to do a search over there for more...
13. New Tank

quote:
Originally posted by Danno: All I'm thinking about adding is a Skunk Shrimp,2 clowns and an Annome. How long should I wait before I add the shrimp and Clowns?

Sorry if I took this the...
14. New Tank

Danno, I understand that you are just getting your feet wet with the whole reefkeeping thing, but I don't think you should look at this hobby as something that you'll learn as you go along. Things will go a LOT smoother in the long run if you take plenty of time to read, research, ask questions...
15. New Tank

Danno, I will reiterate what the others have said...take the fish back NOW. I don't know anything about the chalk bass, but the tang is definitely too large to be content in your tank, even if it were already established. It is a very bad idea (not to mention cruel) to have fish in your tank...
