  1. whats the best skimmer to buy??

Lynn, I would say a Bullet 3, AquaC 240 or the Euroreef. I do not know the availability of the Euroreef from Cdn online retailers, J&L sells the other two. I have an older version Aqua C, the EV 200 on my 245 and am quite happy with it. My recomendation of the Euroreef is based on all the...
  2. MH Hanging Suggestions

I have a 4" tall frame that sits on top of the tank with my PFO fixture resting on top. This puts the lights about 5-6" away from the water, prevents any light from spilling out and blinding people sitting on the couches and still gives me an open top tank. Scott
  3. Magnets

I use algae free's Tiger Shark on my 5/8 glass and love it. By far one of my better purchases. Scott
  4. Sump Design

Here is a link to Lifereef's custom page. Probably the best designs available commercially. http://www.lifereef.com/custom.html Scott
  5. POLL - How many of you keep the area under your stand neat a

In this picture I have 2 250 watt heaters, a thermometer, 25 gallon refugium, 35 gallon (capacity) sump, Aqua C EV 200 protein skimmer with two pumps, return pump, calcium reactor with 12 pounds of media, 5 pound co2 bottle, waste collector (the fancy empty milk jug ), titanium grounding...
  6. Starphire 135g or regular 180g?

Circa, Have you looked into the pricing of a Starphire tank? Inter-American who has been building most of them is in Calgary I believe, most people have said that they are comparable in price to regular tanks. IMO, if you are hesitant to get an 8' length tank, get a 30" wide 6' tank. It...
  7. Low K MH's with blue filters?

A lot of this discussion is above me at the moment but here is a picture of two frag vats at a friends house, both lit with the same kind of bulb, and look at the difference in brightness. The blue filter took a lot away. He did not like the set up and removed it. Scott
  8. How do you support your rocks?

6-line, I placed rock in between the top pieces of pvc as well on the outside. Here are some pics. Before During After The pvc is immediately almost invisible, before coraline or anything else even grows on it. Scott [ August 28, 2001: Message edited by: shadetree ]
  9. How do you support your rocks?

Dargason, I a previous tank I painted some PVC and it eventually just started to flake off, it will take time but the pvc will have coralline begin to grow on it and make it less conspicuous. A little creative placement of liverock and you won't be able to see it anyway. Anywhere along the...
  10. Multiple Return Pumps

Can't offer much advice except that I do not think many pumps will stand up to the on/off of a wavemaker type setup. You will really have to do some research on your pumps and definately keep us posted if you find a particular one that can withstand the abuse. Scott
  11. How do you support your rocks?

Dargason, I installed my powerhead by simply putting a T in the middle of one of the long pvc sections and plugging the powerhead into it. Make sure that you place the powerhead so that it is accessible for maintenance down the road. That is why mine is lifted above and to the side of my...
  12. Got my new Calcium Reactor + pictures !

Nice looking reactor. FWIW, I have 8 screws on my Canreef reactor it there is absolutely no salt creep. It is a 6" diameter tube as well. It has been in operation for a few months now. A properly constructed lid will not have salt creep with only 8 screws evenly spraed out. From the many...
  13. How do you support your rocks?

dargason, I used 1/2" pvc, HD sells the eggcrate, it is also referred to as a light diffuser I believe. RevAZC, In the first picture you can see a vertical piece of pvc, on the end of that I have a Hagen 402 powerhead. I have the powerhead mounted high up so that I can perform maintenance on...
  14. How do you support your rocks?

I built a pvc platform for my rockwork. It keeps most of the rock above the sand and allows excellent water movement and gives me a full 12 square feet of DSB that is not compacted. I then used the platform as a spraybar and am very happy with the results. There is no detrius build up at the...
  15. John Rice -IT WAS NOT JOHN(SORRY JOHN)

jjamesrb, Many people will always be jealous of what they cannot have and what better way to pump themselves up than to belittle others. I would take the advice of others and do not let it bother you, just report it to AOL. Remember that this board is probably seen by even more children than...
