This is probably obvious, but I should point out that this picture is of the coral closed, and at night it opens up wide with big sticky pits and tenticles.

this is all very good info, thanks. But is it likely that, say a crosshatch, would chew up star polyps and mushrooms to some extent, or would it probably just leave them alone? All together the tank would consist of a crosshatch, like sized eel, mushrooms and star polyps in a 150 gallon tank...

Yeah, it would be cool. So an eel and a certain type of trigger would work with just some mushrooms and star polyps? But no chance on the puffer? Anyone know what type of trigger will work?

I'm converting a tank from coral into something with Puffers/Triggers/Eels... so obviously these are not "reef safe" animals, but does anyone know if ANY types of coral have a chance of living with them? Maybe just a few mushrooms or some star polyps? Or will they get chewed up? Thanks.

Okay, thanks for that info. But if the smoke is bad when it contacts the water in large quanities (when the smoke isn't leaving the chiminy) then wouldn't it be mildly damaging in small quanities (some smoke is bound to get in the room). Does anyone have direct expereince with this? Thanks a lot.

Hey everyone... so what do you think? I'm moving soon (a 150 gallon tank, yes thats another story) to an appartment that has a wood burning fire place in the same room that i plan to put the tank in. Is this a recipe for disaster? If I burn newspaper and wood, would that harm the tank? maybe...
