  1. Who does not skim?

Never skim, haven't changed water in 2+ years. I have some macro algea in my tank, but that is new within the last 6 months. Since the algea addition though my tank is growing faster. Here is a pic before I moved the algea to the sump. You cannot see the four other varieties of mushrooms that...
  2. Jellyfish

Thank you for the advice, exactly what I was looking for. Back to a nano
  3. Pics of my 180g. ecosystem reef

Most people have a goal to make there tank look like a reef, I know that is my goal. I think it has changed, I want my tank to look like Sue's. Your tank is swell (highest compliment from my grandmother).
  4. Jellyfish

I am trying to decide what to do at my desk at work. I am thinking of a small nano reef, but saw a kewl little jellyfish setup at the LFS. I inquired a little on what was involved, but didn't spend to much time asking questions. They require a circular water movement with lower tank temps...
  5. How much do you spend a month on your reef?

I would say I spend fairly little on my tank. Maybe $10-$15 a month on electricty and $10 every 2-4 months on food. Three times a year I will spend $30 on a fish or something for my self. Plus lights once a year is something like $100. The intial startup to get everything going seems to be the...
  6. How do I get coraline algae off of the front glass?

I second the credit card technique. I use it on my tank for the corraline and for getting the algea at the very bottom of the glass at the substrate level. What sucks is, the more you scrape the more it appears. At least that is what happens on my tanks.
  7. Anyone Have ANY Idea Why My 96 Watt PC's Keep Breaking At th

My post is not a lot of help, but I have never had a problem with my PFO setup. I have used and abused my lights. I have banged them with the glass cup I used to add water to my tank, I hit them with the PH when I switch PHs a few months ago. Heck, I hit one with my arm and it popped out of the...
  8. Tank at Work

Thank you DC for the advice. A little 2-3 gallon setup is looking like it. What did you do for water changes, or did the filter take care of it. I was planning on putting just a heater and a small PH on the tank and bringing water from home every few days. Our office is always around 73F, so...
  9. life expectancy of turbos

My crabs like to team up one individual snails if they are near the bottom. They rape and pillage the shell and usually realize the shell is to big and leave it. If I see them on the floor of the tank I usually make sure they are near the edge so they can start climbing up the glass and eat...
  10. Tank at Work

My boss told me that I could have a tank at work if I wanted. She said not to make it to big, so I was thinking of a 3-5 gallon setup and changing the water from my tank at home every few days. Anyone have any ideas on what to keep. I was thinking of a couple different shrooms and a small...
  11. I love MH

It has been a month or so since I started acclimating my tank to the 250wMH I bought from Scott Cox. I came home last night and everything in my tank was open very big and appeared to be happy. All the different shrooms I have are at least 2" in diameter if not 3". The bubble coral is the...
  12. Ever look UNDERNEATH your tank?

I know others can post pics faster than me since i need to go home to take the pics. I have lots of weird stuff on the bottom of my tank. I used to have an engineer goby and I watched him from under the tank since he dug through the 4" of substrate to make a home. It looks like there is a good...
  13. are sand dollars good for deep sand beds?

I have sand dollar skeletons in my tank. I like to frag shrooms onto them to make moving them around the tank easy. The sand dollars did not stay white for very long when I put them in my tank.
  14. What is on your PH?

Just curious what others have growing on there PHs. I have some corraline and a ton of tiny feather dusters. I also have an intersting sponge growing on the bottom of my PH. I have some hair type algea growing on the outlet of the PH also, but that is where it stays and has never moved.
  15. Lots-o-bubbles

I forgot to mention, right now my tank is a totally stand alone system. No sump, no pump, just two PHs and a CC substrate. I do not see where they are coming from. The PH usually puts out really small bubbles (1/64" diameter). So I do not think it is that, but it could be. Hopefully this...
