Here are todays numbers for the tank:
-ph is 8.3 on meter (recently calibrated)
-calc is 416 with tropic marin test kit
-salinity is 1.25
and all my critters look happy!
...uh, is 2.5meg/q= 2dKH? :?
I just tested some r/o from LFS mixed overnight with tropic marin salt to 1.22 sg (a little low) and it showed a dKH of 8 with the test kit in question.
:?:
I tested calc this morning and it was 400 (tropic marin test kit). The KH kit is also tropic marin. I just bought it.
Perhaps I should get another test kit.
What would such a high reading indicate?
Whoa. I just tested for KH and it was 24!
I have always kept an eye on ph, which stays at 7.2 or 7.3
Is such a high KH bad? How can I soften my water?
Thanks.
About the hair algee....
I recently moved my tank. I used a product for hair algee that a local store uses. I got virtually no hair algee at all! It's made by TLC and its called Marine SAT. It claims to use bacteria to out compete the hair algee for nutrients.
Who knows if this product is...
..oh yeah. I imagine home depot would be a good company to have on your side. At least they won't put some of their livestock on the special menu....
I hope the Georgia aquarium gets better support than Ocean Journey in Denver. They had to sell due to financial problems and are now owned by a seafood restaurant!

The clown gobie is a nice fish. He would really get beat up with aggressive fish, I imagine. I have all mellow fish. He is not an aggressive eater at all. When he is not chillin' in the coral he is hanging in some tonga rock (very branchy, like an acropora). He is always in the front of the...
It looks to me like the gobie is just hanging out with the coral (shelter). When I feed the tank he seems to eat in the open water. The good news is that the coral seems to be oblivious to the fish. I'm glad you like the photo. I am going to get a tripod soon.
As you can see in my avatar, my clown gobie has formed a "relationship" with my elegant coral. He stays within the tentacles of the coral all day. Has anyone else see this before? Is this unusual? (larger picture attached)
