  1. water temperature question

I have a 100 gal tank w/ lr & fish. I would like to add some corals also. My question is how critical is water temperature? I am able to keep it pretty constant at around 80 deg. running fl lights. I have mh light that I don't run much at all for fear of raising temp too high & I know I will...
  2. DIY Overflow

I am looking for a plan for an overlow that is made out of pvc pipe. I found this a couple of years ago & now I can't find it again. It required no acrylic boxes & just hung over both sides of the aquarium. I liked it because it was really simpleto build. Anyone have any idea where I might...
  3. catching fish

Just to update: I caught the damsel using a soda bottle cut & the throat inverted. After baiting w/ shrimp, he went in & i got him. Thanks for all the advice. I can speak from personal experience that this method will work.
  4. catching fish

I am trying to catch a damsel. I have been thinking about making a catcher by cutting the top out of a drink bottle, inverting it, gluing it back together & baiting w/ brine shrimp. If he went in, he couldn't get back out!
  5. catching fish

Any ideas for catching illusive fish w/o removing all the rocks etc. I have tried to lure him up with food, but when he sees the net, he is gone!
  6. Yellow Tang Eye Problem

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the blister burst & he seems to be moving around more today. I will monitor for a few days & see what happens.
  7. Crab attack.

I have had crabs eat several of my snails. Just last night I had a crab cut off a big peice of my green star polyp. I guess that is my 1st shot at fragging
  8. Yellow Tang Eye Problem

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a yellow tang & I noticed last night he was staying hidden behind rocks. He has a spot on the outside of 1 eye. It looks kinda like a blood blister a human might get. I don't know if it is a disease or injury. I have a damsel that is pretty...
  9. Removing Sandbed

I thought about getting a new tank, but it would be less expensive to use the rubbermaid variety. I really don't like the sand getting stirred around when I clean the algae off of the tank. My tank is acryllic & is already scratching. I also don't like the look of some of the nuisance algae...
  10. Removing Sandbed

I need info & opinions. I have a 50 gal tank w/ lr, 1 coral, 2 annemones, & 3 fish. I have about a 3" sandbed & 10 gal sump. I don't like the looks of the sandbed & would like to move it to a 50 gal refugium. My question is how do I get the sand to the new container w/o causing a big cycle...
  11. green star question

Update to Original Post: My greenstar began to have a few polyps open on the evening of original post & more polyps have opened each day. Today makes a week since I bought it & I would estimate around 70% to be open. Thanks again for all replies & advice.
  12. green star question

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just have to wait! ( seems to be the answer for alot of questions with reefs)
  13. green star question

I bought a beautiful green star coral Monday night. It has not opened up yet. How long should I expect to wait before it opens up? All my parameters are good. I have no other corals in my tank, but I do have an annemone that is thriving. thanks
  14. What is it?

Lord Nikon, Glad to know I am not the only one also. I have 1 piece of coral & am planning a water change & adding calcium level up. I looked at these guys w/ magnifying glass & they may be featherdusters, but they are still too small to really tell. Thanks for all the posts & advice
  15. What is it?

Sorry about the description. They are a little larger than a pin head & flat. They don't appear to be to be moving, just alot of them. (I would estimate 200.) I do have some small featherdusters in some macroalgae in my sump. They do seem to be confined to the sump. I will try to get a...
