  1. ditching the sponge

you do not want to use bioballs, foam, or filter floss in your reef tank. nutrients will build up there and to keep them from being nutrient sinks, you have to rinse them out every day. that doesnt sound like fun to me.

thanks a lot. that really helps a lot.
  3. Introductions thread

i was born in denver in 1970. i moved away a few times and after my stint in the air force, i couldnt resist the the urge to come back. i got my first aquarium (freshwater) in 2003 and was convinced to get a reef going a couple years later. i had a 20L that was pretty packed with some great...

i dont know much about it. that is why i am asking. i know the sensors are mounted with suction cups, but i have a fix for that in my head already. as far as i know it does not come with a pump. i will be using it on the nano (20L). if it works good enough, i may put one on my FW 180g cichlid tank.

  10. PH Question

i think the real problem is your Dkh or carbonate hardness. have you tested your dkh? my guess is that it is very, very low. if your carbonate hardness is up around 9 or so, where it should be, your ro/di water shouldnt make a difference to ph when it is added to your tank. how do add freshwater...
  11. Anyone use the new Corallife Skimmers?

i have a css65 and i really like it. i have mine in the sump so it is out of the way. it really produces dark, smelly skimmate nicely. i give it a 9 or 10. for the price you cant beat it. mine seemed noisey at first, but now that it has been running for a few months, it really quieted down alot...
