I just bought a Oceanic bio cube 14g, my first try at a nano.I put 20lb of
cured fiji live rock in it and one bag of live sand 2 inches and topped it off with water from my 90g full reef.

Just wondering if i should put a skimmer on it? I have been told that with water changes I will be alright without one, also, are the Oceanic bio cubes an alright nano system?

You are going to get half people telling you that you don't need one, and half the people saying you do. I have a 24, no skimmer. There are people who would call me crazy. My opinion is that with good water changes, and good management of inhabitants, you will be fine. If you find yourself with crap on the surface all the time, then go get a skimmer. But save your cash until that situation pops up.

I seriously doubt you'll need one.
I ran my 10g nano without one for a year. Had no problems.
I recently added an old skimmer I use to use on my old 75g, and it ran for a while. Seemed to make no difference at all. I still have it attached, but only turn it on every once in a while, just for the hell of it. I'm sure the tank would be just fine without it at all. I have a large quantity of rock in this tank though, probably 20# of live rock, plus a decent sand bed. This probably helps with the chemical/biological filtration.

I ran my 5 gal nano with no skimmer for over a year with no problems. My 20 gallon has a skimmer, but its a prizm, so i'm not sure if that even does anything. :P

Thank you for all the info. The tank is starting to get some scum on the top. The tank is young though & it might need some more time to settle down.I think it is going to be hard to find a skimmer that will work with out modding it in the oceanic bio cube.

I only have 2.5in, L/ 2.5in, w/ 6in,h/ in my filter area to put a skimmer. I would like to keep it looking clean with out too much hanging off the tank if I can. Does any one know of one that would work.

:)

Man I have had my 12 Gallon nano Tank for Three Months with no skimmer,I think they are a waste of money and you will do a better Job with good water changes and a lot of live rock and dont over feed.
