No it isn't, The whole "illegal" thing was because they were being fed raw chop meat and they were worried of salmonella contamination.

That pretty much explains what I just said. Most stores used to carry them anyway because the ones they got most likely did not have salmonella. Sometimes they would be marked not for sale but they were. Now a days most stores don't even sell turtles because no one buys them. They are the most bought then neglected animal in history and there isn't much profit to be made on them unless they were maybe a rare turtle or tortoise but typical red eared sliders you find in pet stores are usually given to them by someone who didn't want it to begin with.

yea a 40 breeder even for 1 is too small in a few months those things will be the size of the tank.
