If they miss the whole season, I will no longer be a fan of the NHL and I have bought the season pass (on time warner cable) for 8 straight years!
Im tired of this BS! Why did the players agree to things last time if the owners were going to pull this crap now (which is apparently the sentiment of the players also).

Blame the greedy owners!! Bettman is just their voice.

I heard a blurb on ESPN that if the players lose 9 games worth of salary then that would be the equivalent of the deal the owners want.

The owners have no reason to capitulate. I hope the players stick to their guns and shove it down the owners throats!!

It's pretty simple, even though the owners got the better part of the deal the last time they saw the deals that both the NFL and NBA owners just recently got and they now figure that they can get even more from the players. On top of the that they also saw that if you start the season in late December or early January, like the NBA did, the fans will comeback. They also saw that you can take off a whole season and fans will comeback, just like did they last time. So they basically feel that they're in a win win situation and can wait the players out again, like they did last time. And you have to remember, this time the owners aren't screaming that they're losing money, they just want to make more.

So, no games until late December or early January at best.

Right, but this time, the players have an edge.

During the last lockout, the owners insisted on a portion of the players salaries going in to an escrow account in consideration of the revenue sharing complexity. So now, the players will be receiving 8.5% of last years salary in the beginning of October. Additionally, the NHLPA will be paying players from their licensing savings on a monthly basis. This should get most players somewhere around $200k annually. Tack on the 65% of their salary that the KHL is willing to pay them and they're in no rush to come back to the NHL.

Unfortunately not all the players are going to get a chance to play in Europe, and the money that they're getting, from escrow and from licensing savings, plus possible loans, isn't enough for most players, they also want to play and don't want to lose another year off of their careers. As for the owners, well NBC is still paying them, so they're really in no rush to comeback, and it's been proven that the fans will comeback, even after 1 year off. So in the end the owners still have the edge and it's only going to be settle when they get what they want, which is unfortunate, as the players got the hosed last time and the league's revenues have really grown over the last contract. I just has a feeling if the players wouldn't accept something close to the owners deal around December the season will be cancelled.

Oh I'm confident that the season will be cancelled. Bettman and his cronies refused to even meet the day of the deadline, which means that they aren't going to budge, the head of the NHLPA is in favor of eliminating the cap, and while that hasn't been brought to the table yet, he isn't willing to budge either.

The Rangers are in the rough shape if the season is cancelled, as all but three of the players contracts end in 2 years, meaning that almost the entire team would be eligible to walk after one season if the 2012-13 season is cancelled, but Dolan doesn't care, as Cablevision and the Knicks will easily support paying people to come see his terrible band play.

Expect them (the owners) to hardline it and bag the whole first half of the season but be back in time for the Winter Classic and enough regular season games to establish a pecking order for the playoffs - which is where they make their real $.

This is the 3rd work stoppage under Bettman... you'd think someone might have wanted change by now. Guess not.

The players should do exactly what the NBA players did. Play games at different venues. Threaten to start your own lg as the NBA players did as well. The KHL is benefitting greatly from this. They should air some of the KHL games on tv.
