Today is the day we honor the men and women who fought and gave their lives in service to our country. These men and women helped preserve the way of life we hold true today. So sometime before, during or after the barbecues and the parades and whatever you do today take time to remember these people, it is after all their day :usa1:

It's easy for most people to overlook or make light of this day not having been involved or knowing people who are. We're used to these freedoms and never having had to question them or have them threatened directly lulls us into a state of complacency. It's a labor of love and whether you agree with the current politics or not, these people are out there in harms way so the rest of us don't have to be. I recently went to my military school reunion. It was my class' 10th and the first one I have gone to. A lot of the guys I graduated with are still in and many are currently deployed. My best friend who I ended up losing track of since then, I learned actually joined after college and is now in Iraq. I have been trying desperately to contact him through other friends of mine now. I also learned that a close friend of mine from that time lost both his legs during his tour. My good friend and an employee of the store Cliff, is a veteran of the Afghani theatre. He was a gunner on an AC130 (the spectre gunship). His job was to help the guys on the ground get back as safe as possible when they needed help.
This is not a holiday to feel badly for those we have lost. They did what they did willingly and because somebody has to and for the other guys that do it. So, like Chief said, while you are bumming around drinking beer and barbecuing, think about who gave a part or it all to make your freedom possible. I don't know anyone who regrets their time in the service and most of the guys I know wish they could have done more.

I am really glad to see that even though this is an extremely unpopular war Americans are still very supportive of our troops. We can't even imagine the sacrifices that they have and continue to make for us and its great that people are not taking out their displeasure with the war on our troops like has happened in the past.......ie. Vietnam. These people put thier lives on the line for us everyday and they deserve our respect and appreciation. So to all our troops stationed around the world.....Thank You. Have a great Memorial Day

^^^^Exactly!!

Wishing everyone a Safe and Happy Memorial Day!'s to all those that serve and have served this Country. Coming from a military family Memorial Day has always been a huge celebration when I was growing up, for more reasons than a day off and nice weather.

So man the BBQ, grab a cold one and toast those men and women that gave us the opportunity to eat charred meat and drink ice cold beers!!!

Today it is important to remember those that have fallen to protect our freedom in service of this country but it is also important to thank those who are still with us who have served this country as well. Thank you to all of our veterans from myself and my family. Those that are still with us and those who have passed either in battle or not.

In Honor of Memorial Day

Marine.jpg

Todd Heisler The Rocky Mountain News
When 2nd Lt. James Cathey's body arrived at the Reno Airport , Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac.
During the arrival of another Marine's casket last year at Denver International Airport , Major Steve Beck described the scene as so powerful: 'See the people in the windows? They sat right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You gotta wonder what's going through their minds, knowing that they're on the plane that brought him home,' he said 'They will remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They're going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should.'
