agreed. how can I put a camera on the ipod touch???? even if I did the jailbreak,

I wonder if the 3G iphones will come with a higher service plan from AT&T, thats the only way Apple can price it like that.
if not, Im just waiting for the same price drop on the iTouch.

:bunnies::bunnies::bunnies:too good to be true,
Apple's marketing slogan for the new iPhone, which runs on a faster wireless network, is "twice the speed at half the price." But, as usual, there's a catch. People are starting to do the math and realizing that the new iPhone will actually cost more than the current versions -- but the payments are spread out. It's like an iPhone financing plan, sponsored by AT&T Inc.

Yes, the new iPhone, which goes on sale July 11, will cost $200 less than the current version. AT&T, Apple's U.S. wireless partner, said it was subsidizing the cost of the phone. Thanks, AT&T!

But AT&T also announced that it was raising the price of its basic unlimited data plan by $10 a month to $30 (that's in addition to the calling plans, which start at $39.99 a month). So over the life of the mandatory two-year wireless contract, the iPhone user will pay an additional $240.

Save $200 today, but pay $240 extra over the next two years. Boing? More like "thud."

The $240 translates to about 55 gallons of regular unleaded gasoline at current prices. But it's all about priorities, right? Surfing the information super highway, especially while on the go, is often more satisfying than driving on a regular highway.

AT&T executives said that even with the price hike in the data plan, they expected to take a hit in profit over the next two years. Carriers subsidizing phones is nothing new, although industry analysts say the size of AT&T's subsidy is higher than usual.

"I'm surprised they would have to do it with such a popular product," said Douglas Christopher, an analyst with Crowell, Weedon & Co., a Los Angeles-based regional brokerage firm. "Weird."

Another interesting tidbit in the fine print: IPhone buyers will have to activate the device inside an Apple or AT&T store, meaning they won't be able to resell them or try to hack the phones to use with another cellular carrier. That could hurt consumers, say people who want more openness and choice among U.S. wireless providers.

:Blurp: read 'em and weep... iPhone 3G: Is $199 a deal?

http://dealnews.com/features/-i-Phone-3-G-Is-199-a-deal-/234033.html

AT&T has quietly raised the price on its unlimited data plan for the iPhone 3G. Unlimited data now goes for $30/month, an increase of $10. Factor in your monthly voice plan, which starts at $39.99/month for 450 minutes, and you're paying a minimum of $69.99/month. That's not horrible, but since you're locked in for two years, that's a grand total of about $1,855.

i have had the iphone for a couple of months now and after the intial ooooooo! and ahhhhhhhs! I am not all that inpressed with it. The touch screen is great but they left out very basic phone software like sending a picture message. Yes there is software that you can use to send and recieve now but its a pain in the butt. On top of it i had a better signal with a free phone. Dont get me wrong i like the phone but they at least could of added the features that a 20 dollar phone has.

that's insane the data prices ... who would pay $30 just for internet ??? Also I heard the call quality even tho AT&T says they have more bars in more places is pretty bad in some areas, as well as people complaining about not even receiving calls at all (the phone rings and you get a this number is not in service message) ...

Now I am not saying my Sprint HTC touch is better than the iphone or even trying to compare phones from carriers but from my experience AT&T is like Sprint in terms of coverage, some places its good others great and yet others is downright horrible ... T-Mobile well thats just a joke, and Verizon I have heard from people that you could be buried six feet under and still have service but on the flip side there phones aren't the best ...

Either way you look at a phone is a phone and to be honest my older phones with the pull out antenna had better service in doors and closer to towers (the umbrella effect) than these new phones with the embedded antenna. Yes my touch can do just about anything, as can the iphone and blackberries etc... but is it really worth it? In the end like the above stated you are paying $1800 in the long run ... :irked:

I am a gadget freak at heart, but with added technology comes added costs thats just the way it is, and my theory is if you are paying alot between the phone and plan from the carrier why not have the best phone out, now is the iphone the best phone out, well it def has the potential just not yet ... i'd wait another year or two and than compare specs, because its garunteed to have an even better model show up by than ...

Right now I'm paying $70 a month for two lines on Verizon 600 minutes a month....

If I go to ATT with the iphone I was told that the additional line was only $10 per month and the voice plan is 450 minutes...

I'm thinking of making the switch since I'll be out $200 and an extra $240 for a two year commitment......
