Very cool feng shui tank. The principal is the same as when you take a two liter bottle of soda and turn it upside down into a glass of water (with the glass being either full or empty). If the glass is empty, you quickly turn the soda bottle over into the glass, keeping the mouth of the bottle below the rim of the glass. Only enough water to fill the glass, up to the mouth of the bottle, will pour out of the bottle. The rest of the liquid in the bottle will remain in the bottle, above the water line in the glass.

Very inventive tank. I like it.

The only thing is.. there was an air bubbler going into the part that lifts out of the water. Without something to remove those air trapped up there, the whole column would be filled with air eventually.

VERY cool tank. but what I like best is that the tank creator, Fishfreedom aka Mr. Ho, adds info (click more info) about tanks in general, giving good info to the random public who sees his tanks and want to do "something cool." Very nice, and he answers a lot of questions on his youtube page: http://youtube.com/user/Fishfreedom

If you go to his page, the featured video shows how he cleans the tank, which shows how the set-up works.

You can also email him directly. Nice!

i would think he has either:

1) a vacum pump that sucks out the air ontop faster then the air stone fills the tank

or

2)the air inside the top tank is just recycled over and over again, so there is no change in the volume of air inside.

Al, I was thinking #1 when I posted. Otherwise the displacement of the air vs. water would empty the water and flood the bottom tank.....as Ming said.

i'm actually thinking more of number 2, that the bubbles coming up from the airstone are actually air being sucked in from the top of that tank. That way if the pump fails you wont have a wet floor as opposed to the first option
