I just got back a little while ago from NJ. Hunted the afternoon at a new spot, awesome place, but didn't see anything. I wish I did some scouting there earlier because there is definitely plenty of potential.

and I thought you were talking about the opening of blackfish season...........But mmmm....venison does taste so good...and there are so many deer..I'm not a hunter, and I can't understand the emphasis on bucks. The overpopulation of deer is a major problem, and I would think that it is far more important to nail the does than the bucks...If I ever did go hunting, I think that I would only go for does. Of course, if I did go hunting...my wife would make sure that it was my head on the wall. Personally, I'll settle for meat, not racks....Its especially a turnoff when I see these guys by the roadside on LI sawing the heads off of roadkill deer...real classy!

taking a doe is very helpful in controlling the deer population.i saw around 25 to 40 doe's last night and 2 small bucks.so these deer are mating with probably its brothers which is what ive heard are causing these deadly diseases in the herd.but for me next week im going to hunt the big boy i saw sat when i walked in the woods.he was the size of a horse and the rack of dolly parton :lol2:

I grew up in upstate, NY where the deer population is out of control.. we need deer hunting.

I had a black lab and my neighbor was a miserable hunter.. I think in 10 years only got 2 deer maybe. My lab would come home with easily 2 deer a season. Generally parts of them.. sometimes he would drag one in the front yard and have a fest. There were a few times my neighbor would curse out my dog.

i know a bunch of guys who have hunted 10 or more years and have got nothing.they are all looking for the big buck.a true hunter knows especially a bow hunter which is all i do will take any deer that is in range.any deer is a trophy.and u need to respect the deer.taking a animal is needed to control the mass population.i leave any small bucks that come my way so they may get big a pass the gene on to its young.taking the doe controls the population .its sad though i go in the woods in august to do some scouting and i find so many deer that have died from either disease or starvation.

over the past few years the winters around Syracuse have been warm which helps the deer population grow out of control.. I don't know one person that hasn't hit a deer up there with their car or come very close.
