So I didnt know how to best title the transaction. Recently I went to pick up some frags from someone ( dont remember if it was from here or LIRA ) and on the way, I'm thinking to myself that this doesn't look like such a good neighborhood ( turned out the guy didnt live in that neighborhood but next door ) and I dont know him plus he only has a few dozen posts so this can't be the smartest thing I've ever done. Whenever I meet a stranger ( MR, LIRA, Craigslist ) I always have in the back of my mind the story from a few years back where a crazy woman killed a pregnant woman for her unborn fetus. The women met through a yahoo ( i think ) group for dachsund owners. Now I know that was a crazy, very isolated incident but I've been wondering if anyone here ever had a bad, or nearly bad, experience with such a transaction. My mother wants me to advertise her couch on CL and I'm not too crazy about doing it. Cars are one thing since you can meet outside in broad daylight away from the house if need be but bringing a stranger into your home, or going to a stranger's, thats another thing. I'm really interested in what our law enforcement members here have to add to the conversaion.

You can start off by listing it here on the "Non Reef Sales" Forum :)

I think you are being realistic in this day and age of wanting to protect your family and home by not allowing strangers in. Unless I already know the person I am buying frags from (or have checked here with someone who does know them well), I will meet them outside of their home for the buy. Add to that I ALWAYS leave the address & phone # (and frequently a copy of the printed map to their home) on my kitchen counter before I go. Ya never know...better safe than sorry!

Back in the day, circa 5 B.K., my wife and I would travel the tristate area for a good deal. There had to be at least two dozen times that we thought we walked into texas chainsaw.

It's funny to look back and laugh now, but a few times did raise the hair on my neck.

When I was younger I used to take my dad along with me everywhere I went. Back then the board was smaller and you sorta kinda knew everyone that was there. Now before I head out to someones place I make sure they've met at least 1 person I know personally, that could vouch for them. If no one's met them, I try to set up a meet in a public place. If they're coming over to my place and I or someone I know has never met them, I meet them at the door with the coral in hand. Not that I don't wanna show off the tank, but hey its not worth getting killed. Only way someone gets in is if my parents are BOTH home.

Ill post it here when I get photos but its an (I believe ) Italian leather, green sectional L shape. Very nice, good condition and comfy. My mom likes to change interior decorations every few years otherwise its great. If I had the space I'd take it myself.

Oh I know all about internet fraud. I was asking more about crime, or bad experiences, related to the actual in-person part of the transaction ( getting robbed, assaulted, threatened, etc ).

I like to go with friends. That's all. Not many neighborhoods worry me really especially with a few friends. I always leave the address of where I am going and the contact info for the person I am meeting with my wife just in case. Also the screen name of the person I am meeting. I only meet people from here and the gecko forum never from CL or any of the other forums I belong to.

Rick the Internet Fraud Complaint Center is a division of the FBI and they should have been able to help you with the online fraud problem.

Chief - I guess being a cop helps but are you aware of crimes that have happened as a result of meeting people online ( besides child sex crimes ).

We had one that started out innocently, guy from upstate (in his 30s I believe) met some guys from NYC on the internet and since he wanted to see the city, he decided to come down and meet them. They met in Penn Station and when he met them, after a little while of talking they gave him a can of coke. Apparently he didnt think anything of it when it was handed to him open...

He woke up later that night in a park in my precinct in Queens and had really bad stomach pains. His clothes were dissheveled and his pants were undone, but whatever, so he goes to the hospital and next thing you know we're getting called because he had a 13 inch.... err... item.... inserted all the way up his.... umm.... rectum...

So the moral of this story is just make sure when you go to others houses that you dont drink anything and wear a chastity belt and leave the key at home, and you'll be fine.
