stop giving out your cell phone number. In a lot of states it's actually illegal for companies to call you on your cell phone if you've had no prior business dealings with them.

I get these calls all the time on my home phone...don't know what for, because I hang up as soon as I know its a recording. When I get a live person, I tell them that I am fed up with their calls...so what happened? One guy called me right back, accusing me of being disrespectful. All I did was tell him I'm tired of getting these calls.............

They hide behind non working numbers. And you can not report them without a company name. At least that's what the FCC needs to send the violations out.

this is an example of bad technolgy. these r spam generated from autobots. they enable multiple spam calls with only a few real live telemarketers.
i still feel the answer is NEVER to give these calls any business. i can't imagine spam to work unless they r generating some sort of revenue.
unless its a prank call, i can't c y companies continue to spam if its not generating any business.

First, nowhere did Wingnut say this was a spam call on his cell phone. It might be, but he never mentioned it.

Second, I just tell the spammer that I'm very interested, but their call was a beep on my call waiting. I ask them to give me their name & phone # so I can call them right back. When they give me their # (most do give it thinking they're getting some business), I then tell them I'm going to report them to the National Do Not Call Registry.

Believe it or not, this has worked.

You do not need a company name for the registry but you need the phone number if you dont have the name. It takes 30 days for the registry to take effect though.

Cable keeps calling me trying to get me to get the home phone, because I have the internet(which is on it's way out ,I can't stand how slow it's gotten), and tv... I don't want or need one everyone except my 3 year old daughter has one,,LMAO...

The last time they called I told them, "when I get some free time I'm switching to Verizon"... LOL..

for live person telemarketers, when u ask for a phone # n/or company name, most hang up cause they know y u r asking. or they just keep pitchin their sales pitch. these shady business practice should b outlaw.

I agreed, this kind of practice should HAVE BEEN outlawed long time ago!!! It looks like nusiance only but infact they are mental attack. We cannot just shut our phones(cel, home or business or whatever) as our real callers will complain. These calls come in any time of the day, 7:00 in the morning, 7:00 evening, and 11:00 at night too. We may have to shut our phones for 24 hours. There is almost no way out unless some heavy law is placed on them. I wondered, how the judges and polician fight this battle-they must have received such calls too, I think.

My home # and all my family's cell #'s are on the Do Not Call registry. I have never gotten a spam call on any of my cell #'s....only my home #. And while I do inform the live callers that I am on the registry, it doesn't really work. there are too many loopholes....If you have ever done any business with their competitors, or in their field, you are fair game. That's why nearly all the calls are from mortgage places or satellite/cable companies.
