600 HP cars

I'm curious..

Why in the world are manufacturers making such fast cars when our speed limits are 20, 30, 40, 50, 60MPH?

Do people just buy them for the status? I don't understand the point..

It's a matter of getting to that 60MPH speed limit in under 4 seconds that you need 600bhp.

Skimacka, I understand that. But what is the point of getting there?
I mean, even I didn't settle for anything under a V8 for that reason, but I wouldn't spend 100 of thousands of dollars just to get to 60 in under 4 seconds.

Is just for passion. I have a client that bought last year a Bugatti Veyron for 1.5M and now he's cursing the whole world because he lost soooooo much in the market lately :splitspin

its all about the rush bro. the adrenalin the anticipation, the kicking back of your neck when you shift the gears, and then the smile on your face when you just merged onto the highway faster than any other car around you can, and just knowing you can out run a cop, or a ricer, your paying for the ability. why have a reef in your house that you cant swim in? just passion and pleasure. what do you drive awibrandy?

There is a group here in Orange County that are building a private race track. I'm not talking about your run of the mill oval race track. It is going to be something like a 10 mile track spread over 6000 acres. Basically it's going to look like all those BMW and Lexus commercials where they are speeding through the woods and taking on S turns like no tomorrow.

This is also going to be private club, initiation fees are $500,000 and annual dues are around $25,000. So there are places where you can take your car and open it up.


Also like JP says, most are collectors making an investment.

Adrenalin rush can be dangerous. My friend's brother gets a rush from head on collisions. He says it gives him a high like you wouldn't believe...

I don't race. I just have my vehicle for getting around. I drive an Explorer V8. I like the room and height of the trucks and hubby wouldn't let me go any bigger..

awi i was joking, well not entirely, some are collectors, but there are very few car's up in those price range that are collectors or that will be worth anything close to what they cost. would love to see the bugati, being a car nut myself and a speed freak i understand wanting a high hp car, but in reality 99% of those who own them dont know how to truelly drive a car like that, i actually had built a car for scca racing, but was in deep enough i couldnt afford it if i ever wrecked or blew a motor, and had a few places to sponsor me, being from the state of racing { indiana } i grew up around hot rods my whole life, is all the hp neccessary ? nope, but it's nice knowing when someone pull's up beside you that you can blow their sox off if you want :tongue1:

I'm dying to see it myself..........for what I know he has approximately 40 collectlibles in a warehouse in the Hamptons. I made a joke to a partner and I told him that he should send me to do the inventory count...LOL

The demand will always be there for people that want the power. Whether they are collectors or not should not matter. I do not own a fast car, however i am a motorcycle fanatic and I can say that I love taking my bike to the track and i am an andreneline junkie...In addition, it is a competition with ones self to set better and better records. If you think a 600hp car is crazy I own a street legal 355 hp motorcycle that will run a 1/4 mile in the low 8's high 7's. I own this not becouse i have a small pp....just becouse i enjoy the challange of breaking my own personal goals. Unfortunately hp is tied directly to the times i lay down.
Take a look at the people in our hobby(reef keeping)...most of us including myself are obsessed with it and will spend thousands of dollars(ive seen systems that cost well ove 6 digits). It is our hobby, and a passion. Do you know how many people look at me like im sick in the head when they see all the equipment and care i put into my tanks. I dont care what they think...I LOVE IT....thats all that matters..period...Ok i am going to stop rambling now.

There's already a private race track in Sullivan County called the Monticello Motor Club. I was given a tour a few laps... very very nice. VERY VERY expensive. A 600bhp car would be perfect for that though!

Its a hobby like anything else. Whats the purpose of going on a rollercoaster or going skydiving? Its a thrill ride.
