anyone know good mts. for snowboarding up in Vermont? i've been going to camelback and hunter for the last few yrs, and it's getting boring real fast. =\
"stratton, stowe, and jay peak in distance order. those are the best snowboarding mountains hands down"
Couldn't have said it any better myself. Jay Peak is the closest thing you can get to out west. If you can handle the drive and there are no kids going stay at a place called Grampa Grunts in the village of Jay Peak.
stratton can get crowded but the parks are great for boardercross bombing with your friends. the uppity crowd can get annoying but stratton is the best in south vt. fast lifts and trails are very well maintained. the lift ticket prices reflect that!
for those that have been riding a long time and like the woods/steeps:
i think jay gets the most snow in the northeast by far. hiking above the tram and coming down the face gets access to untouched pow when it dumps (look for the stairs and traverse across). i've been up to my armpits in untracked light and fluffy there many times. be warned it's VERY steep. like if you fall you may die steep. haha. don't ride solo because very few people ski these parts.
the woods that lead onto the road are badass too but you need to hitchhike back. people will pick you up though. no patrol here so you're again you're on your own.
stowe has awesome secret stashes and i could ride the 'stock run' all day.. you have to hook up with a local to show you the good stuff if they're willing. duck the line under the triple after it dumps and you'll get awesome snow. there's one cliff to drop along the way. but don't end up in the river hidden underneath. ski patrol usually doesn't care but just don't kill yourself. ha. the woods to the right of the gondola can get real good but be sure you don't end up in the notch. too many secret spots in stowe which makes it badass.
if you get good days in vt you'll never want to ski local again!
