So the holidays came with 2 nice surprises: 2 holiday tickets, courtesy of Department of Finance!

Ticket #1 - Fined because I failed to show my paid meter slip properly. I had paid for it, but it was upside down, so the backside was showing, so the cop couldn't see it.

Now, I have the actual paid slip. Can I send this in to show that I paid, and hopefully win?

Ticket #2 - Expired Inspection. Woops. I get this every year! However, in the comment section, it said that my meter slip was upside down. It seems that the cop made a mistake by not deleting comments in Ticket #1 before writing Ticket #2.

It technically has an error in the ticket. Can I fight this because of the error?

Parking tickets are very hard to fight however if you plead not guilty on the parking slip summons only mail a copy in with the summons and when you go to court bring the original and a copy of the parking slip with you to enter into evidence. The comments part on the expires inspection summons is inconsequential. You're going to have to pay it. It's not an error it's added information.

:tired: FYI if the tickets are pre printed and not hand written it wasn't a cop that wrote you it was the parking enforcement department. They are NOT cops they are meter maids.

It's very worth while to fight parking tickets. You don't even actually have to show up in court, you can just submit your plea and any physical evidence you have by mail. Seriously whats the worst that'll happen? I've seen this trend with all my parking tickets lately that if you plea not guilty, by mail or internet, you will always get a deal for somewhere like 25% off. So if you think you have a good shot at winning don't take the deal, and if you think you'll lose take the deal. So my advice to you would be to plea not guilty to both and then when they offer you a deal on the inspection take it, and fight the improper parking slip ticket to the end by basically saying the meter maid was blind and did not look at the passenger side where you had the ticket and you still had an old slip backwards on the dash (send a copy of your paid slip in as proof).

Good luck. Maybe if you win you can take care of my tickets when I get them.

Fight it. Most cases, the officer doesn't even show up. Worst case scenario, you'd get the ticket reduced for the effort.

:tired: Parking violations do not need any representation from the issuing officer or meter maid.

You wont have to go into court for Ticket #1. Write a proffessional letter with explanation - make sure to include your license plate # and ticket # in the heading of the letter - and include a copy of front and back of the parking receipt. It should be dismissed. Ticket #2 will be harder but if you got the inspection within a reasonable amount of time, you can try mailing in a letter as well with the proof. If you're lucky it will be dismissed, but probably not.

FYI - It is not necessary to take a day off and go to court for a PARKING ticket ( or traffic one either ). You can plead not guilty and send in the ticket along with a hearing by mail ( which is your letter of defense ). Even for a traffic violation, you can send in what they call an affidavit by mail ( you need to go to the traffic court to get the form ). If you lose and want to appeal, then its best go in person.

I don't agree. For ticket #2 you are definately guilty and should pay it. For the #1 even though you have a valid parking receipt how can you prove that it belong to you? What if you got the ticket from an another person? If was your responsibility to show the ticket properly on your dashboard. Good luck fighting them. And just out of curiosity where were you parked?

Thanks for all the great tips guys.

I was parked in Forest Hills. Crox, did you give me the ticket ;-) hehe jk.

So I guess the incorrect comments for Ticket #2 doesn't matter? I had the impression that the whole ticket needed to be error free, or else you can contest it because the meter maid goofed. If she goofed in the comment section, she could have goofed somewhere else. That was just my assumption.

I was just asking you because this past Saturday I was at a sports bar on 29th st and the car behind me has the receipt backwards. That would've been a hell of a coincidence.

Parking tickets work on the assumption that the person who gets it will pay without contesting it, if you don't pay, then they have you for more than the ticket was worth in the first place (with late fees).
If you go in to contest the ticket and get a judge in a good mood, it gets dismissed or even reduced. so if you have the time then its worth fighting. whether or not your guilty is not the point, the point is you got caught and issued a ticket.

Think about it, the first words out of anyones mouth are "I didn't do it". The response should be "No your innocent, however you got caught".

If you don't pay in a certain amount of time one sunday morning you come out to get in your car and go to work and you realize that the car isn't there. The Marshall has it and it costs quite a bit to get it back. Fines, Penalties, Towing and Storage Fees.

Just send them in with a good letter typed and any physical evidence. Most times you win the ticket if its within reason if not then a good discount.

The meter maids are forced to follow the "ticket now, think later" policy where they are just throwing out alot of tickets knowing people will pay thinking they will have to waste a day in court. They also don't know all the rules 100%. I was fighting over a parking rule with a meter maid, a cop that was driving by stopped to see what the arguing was about and then told the meter maid i was right and the ticket was worthless. Was too late as she already wrote it but he said to send it in with a letter explainign and use his badge bnumber if i wnated and the ticket came back won by me.

By the way you can thanks bloomberg for the strict ticketing policy and the faxct that meter maids outnumber reg cops on the street 5-1. Even better is the meter maids won't come to your aid if your in trouble or mugged or anything. they turn and walk away.

First ticket will be cleared as long as you send it in.

Second ticket is on file. Even at the DMV it will show expired expection. Even if cop writes in comments about upside down ticket, it doesnt matter. Wont get away with this one.

Atleast one will be excused.

They give tickets out on Austin st. quick.
I got my first ever parking ticket there.
While walking, i saw a traffic agent give a person an expired registration ticket. Agents are everywhere.
