Suggestions for a beginner dive computer?

Hello all,

I'm looking to get my first dive computer and need to keep the $ under $400. I prefer wrist mount and want something that I can "grow with." Currently I'm trying to choose between the following:

Suunto Vyper 2
Oceanic Veo 100nx
Mares Puck
Aeris XR2

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

What is your diver level?
I'm an Open Water Diver. I'm thinking of getting a diving mask only since I dive only about once a year. The rest I'll be renting out. My friend has some diving computer I can ask him what type and how much he wants for it.

Right now I'm a noob, but I'm working on it I'll be getting my advanced open water and nitrox certs this summer. I all ready have a full wet suit and mask and will be purchasing my BC with part of my tax return.

You may want to add the Dive Rite Nitek Duo to your list of computers to check out. I have a Nitek HE (helium capability) and I love it. They're a bit more expensive (Still around $399), than some of the others, but a great computer.

Your best bet is to download the manuals, visit some dive shops, test the computers for yourself, and see what you are most comfortable with.

This is life support equipment, never forget that when diving gear is being purchased, and if you're more comfortable with a more expensive piece of gear, hold off until you can afford it.

I ended up buying a Suunto Gekko. I'm pretty happy with it. Would've preferred the new Vyper Air, but couldn't justify the expense at the time.

Bonaire was awesome!
